Steps in Data Collection Process

The researchers submitted a formal request for approval to conduct their study to the dean of the College of Nursing and their research adviser. After receiving permission, they sent letters to administrators of randomly selected private and public schools requesting permission. They obtained approval from the signatories and sought recommendations from guidance counselors to identify qualified respondents. The researchers then selected 10 participants from each grade level and visited the schools to collect data after receiving signed informed consent forms.

Steps in Data Collection Process Before Actual Data Collection 1.

The researchers submitted a formal letter asking permission to conduct a research study for approval to the dean of Silliman University College of Nursing as well as the research adviser, Professor Florenda F. Cabatit. 2. After permission was granted, the researchers sent another letter to the different administrators of the randomly chosen private and public schools for their kind consideration and permission. The following are the list of private and public schools and their respective administrators: A. Private 1. ABC Learning Center, Inc. Mrs. Wivina R. Sicat 2. St. Louis School-Don Bosco Fr. Jerome Mario C. Dublois 3. Foundation University Dr. Mira D. Sinco 4. Holy Cross High School Dr. Profetiza S. Lim 5. Silliman University Dr. Ben S. Malayang III B. Public 1. West City Elementary School 2. North City Elementary School 3. City Central Elementary School 4. Magsaysay Memorial Elementary School 5. Batinguel Elementary School 3. After the letters were sent, the researchers were able to obtain approval from the signatories.

4. To identify qualified respondents for the said research, the researchers sought recommendations from the guidance counselor of any reported cases of bullying. 5. After identifying the qualified respondents the researchers selected 10 participants in each grade level in randomly selected schools. Actual Data Collection 1. After identifying at least six hundred respondents, the researchers visited them in their respective schools. 2. The researchers introduced themselves to the participants and gave brief but thorough explanation about the purpose of the study through the information letter which was provided by the researchers. This step allows the participants to voice out some clarifications, and questions about the study. 3. An informed consent to participate in the study was given to the teachers of each grade level and was instructed to distribute it to their parents for approval. This consent form includes a statement that assures them of anonymity. They were assured that participation is voluntary and they can withdraw from it if they like without the need to explain why. 4. After the collecting the signed informed consents, the respondents were given the options to choose from English or Cebuano questionnaires. 5. After answering the questionnaires, the researchers instructed the participants to place their informed consent including the answered questionnaires in a white envelope which was provided by the researchers, seal it, and give it to the researchers. 6. The researchers then expressed their gratitude for their respondents cooperation and participation.

After Data Collection 1. The data that were gathered were tabulated and analyzed together with the help with our statisticians Dr. Millard Mamhot and Prof. Alice Mamhot, using the statistical tool. 2. Analysis was done with regards to the research questions and the hypotheses of the study were then evaluated. 3. Descriptions and/or correlations among the variables were determined and the results were summarized in graphs and tables. 4. Findings of the study will be presented in tabular and chart dealing with percentages. 5. The means will also be computed in presenting the usual weights and ages of the respondents. 6. The researchers presented all the data gathered to the research adviser and formulated a conclusion and gave recommendations for future researchers.
