Flight Attendant Career Assessment


The following questions are designed to help you determine if the Flight Attendant Career is right for you. Be honest with yourself as you consider each question. True or False? 1. I am willing to work days, nights, weekends and holidays. 2. I am willing to assist passengers with their needs and answer questions. 3. I can handle miscommunications and/or conflicts without getting upset or frustrated. 4. I am at least 50 and not taller than 64? 5. I can lift 45-50 lbs. 6. I am able to manage numerous continual requests with poise and savvy. 7. I am legally authorized to work in the United States, or willing to apply for a valid work permit. 8. I am not racially, culturally or ethnically biased 9. I am willing to work up to 14 hours a day in pressurized aircraft with low lighting and subject to varying noise levels, and turbulence with possibly hundreds of passengers? 10. I am able to adhere to company standards and policies and motivate others to do the same. 11. If hired, I am willing to attend an intensive flight attendant training for up to 6 weeks away from home. 12. I am willing to work as a reserve (on-call) flight attendant anywhere from several months to several years, depending on my base and seniority.

2008 Sky High Careers 13. I speak, read and write English with at least near-native fluency. 14. I am at least 18 years of age or older. (Most airlines hire at 21, but each airline varies) 15. I can agree to a beginning salary starting form $15,000 to $25,000 a year. 16. I am willing to relocate to my assigned base, if necessary. 17. I have a valid passport and/or I am willing to apply for one. 18. I am able to handle upset passengers with poise and professionalism. 19. I have a high school diploma, GED or other equivalent degree. 20. I am reliable and always on-time to work. 21. I am able to show compassion and patience with people when they are tired or angry. 22. I am willing to undergo a 10-year background check and fingerprinting. 23. I am able to be friendly and open even when I dont feel well. 24. I have never been convicted of a felony/misdemeanor, or I am able to explain any expunged convictions. 25. I am able to work long hours, possibly overnight and stay alert and on top of the job. 26. I am able to stand on my feet for long periods of time. I can also lift, push, bend-over and walk long distances. 27. I am able to explain any gaps in my employment and/or educational history. 28. I am willing to conceal any tattoos or piercings that may be visible in uniform. 29. I am willing to abide by the appearance standards and/or policies required of me. 30. My vision is perfect or correctable to at least 20/40. (vision requirements vary with each airline) 31. I am willing to be trained in medical emergencies such as CPR and use a defibrillator. 32. I am able to work with someone I dont like and remain professional.

I am willing and able to keep a current contact number, working pager and/or cell phone. 35. I am able to remain poised when confronting a discourteous passenger. 36. I am able to work quickly and efficiently. 37. I am able to act professionally at all times when in uniform, regardless of my location. 38. I am able to work cohesively with my co-workers every time I show up for work, even though we may have never met before. 39. I am able to leave my personal issues at home when I report to work. 40. I am willing to submit to random drug testing as per company policy. 41. I am able to work efficiently on my own, or with a crew. 42. I am able to respond quickly to an emergency or if someone was hurt. 43. I am not easily offended. 44. I am willing to consider anothers perspective. 45. I am able to deliver bad news tactfully and sympathetically. 46. I am able to assert myself and lead a group of people. 47. I am able to stay self-motivated and complete a task without supervison. 48. I am willing to offer exceptional customer service to anyone regardless of their background, personality, or behavior. 49. I am able to be flexible should my work assignment change. 50. I am able to make good decisions quickly and follow through. If you answered true to at least 40/50 questions, you are ready to begin your application process to the airlines. If you answered true to less than 40 questions, you may consider reevaluating your answers and/or research the career further.
