HORROR TREATMENT: Summary

My horror opening will be a psychological and zombie hybrid. The main character will be Sandra who is an older sister concerned for her younger sister Zara. There has been an epidemic of illness within the town and unfortunately this is indeed the zombie disease. However, Sandra is concerned of what is wrong with her sister and senses something wrong. She has a clue of it to do with her school and eventually sets out to visit the school. Of course she will come across, many zombies hiding in the cellars and her mission is to kill the main one therefore ending the epidemic and saving her sister. As she is the main character and female I will use her as being vulnerable and unfortunately needing male help, in this case her boyfriend Peter. They both set out to the school alongside their 2 other friends who are also concerned of the welfare of their sick family and friends. Within the visit to the school they get killed one by one till it is only Sandra and Peter, unfortunately it becomes a twisted end and Peters mum is held hostage by the zombies he has to choose whether to pick Sandra or her and kills Sandra. They believe they have escaped however on their way home Zara is following them, she has too become so ill her zombie instincts are coming out, eager for human blood and the avenge of her sister she chokes them both and swallows in delight of their vigorously delicious blood.

Summary of Scenes
My first scene will be of Zara and Sandra in a park. The lighting will be gloomy and I will have several midshots close ups and establishing shots, I will want to reflect the mood of the film by the weather because this is not a happy time for the sisters. Zara will be in her school uniform and she starts off holding Sandras hand then letting go due to her running off to the swing. Sandra catches up to her, looking around as a gust of wind appears. She hears Zara cough and has a short narrative. God, why is everyone becoming sick in this town! I want this because it asks a question, and immediately the audience is in suspense. I definitely do not want to give anything away in my opening sequence so I believe this is subtle yet links to the overall genre of horror. My second scene is of them walking home and I would like my background music of the sound of their feet crunching along the leaves and grass. Also, I would like a dog barking and general every day sounds in the background. I will be filming this at the evening therefore I believe this sound will emphasise not only their everyday lifes, but how it can be dangerous and although I plan for nothing to happen to them in their scene I still want the suspense of the possibility. An important shot in this scene will be a close up of Sandra squeezing Zaras hand. I will also like to incorporate a subtle but looming soundtrack the closer they get home and for it to increase. The third scene is of them entering the door, I will have a close up of her entering the door with her key and entering, I believe I can incorporate several shots in this scene which will illustrate my technical skills of filming, including cutaways, cut ins and medium close ups. Zara will run up the stairs and Sandra will walk into the living room, where on the table there are many books she is looking through. One of the books will be a bible because I want religious reference and the bible is a prime example. I will also have a book named the history of the dead she places her hand on. This gives away sudden sub-genres however, nothing about the story line and in fact creates more

Harpreet Gill questions and suspense. I believe this is one of the most important shots because I want my opening sequence to be elusive and indirect so more can be discovered later concluding the psychological genre and this will further emphasise the surprise attacks and horrific gore that will come on later. The soundtrack will increase as she rummages through because I believe music is extremely vital in a horror opening. Furthermore, my fourth scene will be of typography which fades in to her a close up of her hand upon the bible. The typography will say What happens when you find something youre not meant to find? This is a question which will overall tie in with my theme, her eventually going to seek what is wrong with her sister (zombies) and her being killed. The final scene is an above the shoulder shot which will be of Sandra looking out of her window and staring at the primary school which her little sister attends. This will link into the concept of her looking for the school which the zombies are hidden in.

Distribution, Running time, Audience

The length of my opening sequence will be 90 seconds; I want it to be this short because I do not want to give anything away. I want to keep it concise and keep the audience guessing and intrigued so they will be convinced to watch the real thing. The whole movie will be 90 minutes and once again I want this length because I believe the longer the horror the more dragged out, after all there is only so many people that can die and I want my horror to not be seen as boring but more the scariest 90 minutes of their life. My target audience is mainly teenagers, and being this will be a 15 movie due to the consistent Slasher weapons, gore blood and death I want them to be as spooked as possible. Teenagers are also are common fans of horror and knowing this I will use this to my advantage because my main characters are too, teenagers. I am going to distribute my film with advertising on social media such as Facebook and twitter; also I will pitch my ideas to many local producers because we are a low British budget film. I will also pitch to film festivals because I will be more concerned for recognition and possible funding, also I will host a screening for only the opening to give the world a taste of my upcoming film.
