Industry
Police safety, fitness, training, welfare and rescue management has witnessed an increasing focus in the recent past years. While this gets reflected in the increased budgetary allocation for security, protection and rescue expenditure, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has also sought to create physical and policy-level framework for long term development of security and police safety infrastructure. Though in last few years an incredible growth has been recorded, but still a lot much work has to be done for a strong, safe and secure policing in India. Indian police equipments and accessories industry has begun taking note of the potential growth opportunity by aligning itself to emerging technology requirements. Private sector has played a significant role in meeting the requirement of the police and other security forces in various countries including India. India is also witnessing a transitional phase where Indian government has allowed a cap of 49% FDI in defense and police. The budget allocation by Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India for the year 2013-14 has been amplified up to mark of 10 billion and is predicted to see CAGR (Compounded Average Growth Rate) of 15% approximately. This will elevate this industry for a total worth of USD 18.8 billion by 2017-18.
Why India
India is bounded by oceans through three sides, its long coastline, continental dimensions, large permeable land borders, and different cultural and other factors including security and defense, economic, political and demographic picture portrays a complex security challenge among the nation. The central and state governments identified modernization and up gradation as one of the key focus area besides creating a supporting infrastructure for them on long term basis. The Ministry of Home Affairs has targeted substantial development of Indias homeland security infrastructure, like creation of a centralized comprehensive database called National Information Grid (NATGRID) by combining the individual databases of several government agencies, setting up of the CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking network and Systems) and modernization programs for providing better equipment and training to the security and police forces deployed with the task of internal security in India. In a recent positive move, Indian government is also planning to increases the FDI to 49% from 24% for defence and police equipment which portrays India as best business destination for equipments, arms and other allied industries.
