Ans-Boiler turndown is a ratio of capacity at full fire to its lowest firing point before shut-down. Old
boilers may have only two firing positions, low and high. Newer boilers fire over a wider range of
capacities. Depending on the controls, there may be fixed setting points or fully variable settings. If a
1 million BTU boiler can fire as low as 100,000 BTUs, then it has a 10:1 turndown ratio. source

2. assume a refrigerating plant has no refrigerant and no oil, nothing,...start from the beginning that
how vil u go about charging refrigerant and oil, how would u come to kno air is in system, how to
remove that, how vil u kno dat it has been removed..(he wanted to listen exact method so i told him
that carry on pumping down, close condenser inlet valve, coolin water at ful flow, when cw inlet and
outlet temp becum equal, see what is the condensing pressure and frm compressor suction gauge
find out saturation temp at that corresponding condensing pressure, if it is equal to cw temp then it
means air has been removed..he was impressed by this ans..)
3. what is differnce between valve rotocap and spinner and why rotocap on auxilairy engines and
spinners on main engines..what is the driving force in both of them..maintenance and parts of valve
rotocap..?
4. what is reamer, have u ever seen it, what al u can do with it, what is its use in rivetting, ??
5. crankcase inspection of auxilairy engine, what is pinching of connecting rod, elongation gauge's
use for measuring bottom end bearing bolts, LO tests ( all five with name anf how pensky martin test
carried out )..
6. How to raise steam from cold in a auxilairy boiler after major repair...what all prestarting checks u
vil make (dont forget to mention that safety valve gag tool has been removed and vent valve is
open), how much water vil u take initilay anf finaly, what initial fo pressure has to be set, for how
much time intermittent firing has to be carried out..what check vil u make at vent valve before
closing it...??
2. What is the purpose of docking plug, draw it. What are the materials of construction, why lid plate
is there and why it is welded from inside and why plog is frm outside and what is the material of the
grommet..?

Rangit Radhakrishnan : Docking plug is a plug at the bottom of db tanks to drain
them..plug is of brass, and grommet is of lead..lid is there bcoz if threads damaged den v dont hav to
cut thru shell plating and they r welded inside as huge...

Anurag Katiyar By adjusting the cyinder head gasket thickness at cylinder heads of both stages v can
adjust bumping clearance of a particular stage widout affecting clearnace of odr stage..

gasket ..bcoz only one gasket s available on top for hp stage...

Rituraj Sharma in tandem type piston thr is only only one cylinder head for the tandem piston and as
sunil says only one gasket.. huhh.. this answer was really ridiculous.. u wil find out when u c a
tandem type piston and liner..

Anurag-guyz sorry fr the miscomunication..n yep..both f u r ryt ..dere is nly one cylinder head and
only one gasket...n thus v can change only one gasket...bt along wid dat adjusting the shims at the
foot connection of connecting rod and bottom end bearing v can get a proper clearance for both
stages...bt the most important point to be kept in mind is dat bumping clearance for hp stage has
always to be greater dan bottom end bearing clearnce...or else during unloaded starting of
compressor piston vil bang against the cylinder head...dats wat i answered n he ws more dan
pleased to hear dat...if u guyz kno nythng odr dan dis..den plz let me kno..:)
Qsn-what is swivel in boiler
Qsn-why there is no relief valve in fridge compressor?
Ans-Bcz compressor suction is from crankcase...so it is always under vacuum and thus no relief valve
required..
Anurag Katiyar N this arrangement provided bcz lyk air compressor here i dont want to discharge my
refirgerant in engine room...as under high temp refrigerant breaks down into phosgene. HF, and HCl,
and al these gases are exteremely poisonous...

Bala Mohan Singh bumping clearance can be only adjusted in 1st stage(in tandem type) by adding or
removing cylinder head gasket

Er Jayant in multistage single crank air compressor employing tandem piston,if LP stage bumping
clearance is reduced by addition of foot liner to connecting rod,it will increase HP stage bumping
clearance.
