THE GIRL WHO WOULD BE HAPPY
Mona is a young girl who lives all by herself because she is an orphan. One day, while she was walking through a meadow, she saw a beautiful, colourful butterfly. She saw that it was struggling to release itself from a thorn bush. Mona carefully released the butterfly. Once the butterfly was free, it suddenly turned into a beautiful fairy. "In return for your kindness," the fairy said, "I will grant you any wish." Mona thought for a moment and said softly, "I want to be happy!" The fairy leaned forward, whispered something into the Monas ear, and flew away. Years past and Mona grew up into a kind and beautiful woman. After encountering with the fairy, Mona was no longer sad. Her life was filled with serene happiness. When Mona grew old, her good friends came to comfort her and say goodbye to her. Before she passed, Mona shared with them the story of her encounter with the fairy. She told them what the fairy had whispered in her ear. She said, Happiness is like a butterfly; the more you chase it, the more it will elude you, but if you turn your attention to other things, it will come and sit softly on your shoulder.
