The MFM-RI BHU Tradition
It is our commitment and dedication to honesty, integrity and character that has developed MFM-RI grows into a
flourishing course attracting faculty, researchers and students from around the world. Today, five years after its
inception, MFM-RI remains dedicated to its goal of developing stronger, empowered banking & insurance
professionals who will bear the beacon of light for future generations. Previous year we have achieved one more mile
in this course development soon after making conference successful, we got the subject wise exemption from
Insurance Institute of India, Mumbai for the students of MFM-RI. Our story of growth and success has been one borne
out of hard-work, dedication and commitment to our goal of creating a premier academic institution that will nurture
and develop future leaders of society.
MFM-RI BHU is amongst the first in north India to understand the importance of corporate tie-ups with academia and
has left no stone unturned in its efforts to give students exposure to real-market scenarios by making it an integral part
of the academic curricula. MFM-RI Students have unique opportunities of interacting with Industry leaders through
internships, part-time jobs, and also through visiting part-time faculty who have been hand; picked from the industry.
Apart from innovative features to bridge the gap between industry and academia, MFM-RI also pays close
attention to growing trends in the economy and how best to reflect these changes in the classroom. MFM-RI BHU is a
testimony to the notion that the pursuit of excellence is possible only when the core vales of the establishment are
built on honesty, trust and integrity.
Master of Financial Management (Risk & Insurance), BHU views itself as a part of the community in its various locations,
and reflects this by being an active participant and corporate citizen. Activities range from cooperative events
targeted at youth with local councils and corporates. It has been able to identify future graduates early and build
up a relationship with them. It is undoubtedly a great place to get education, but it also desires insurance & other
financial corporations to discover the course in a new light.

National
On April 16th & 17th, 2011, with more than 150 papers and some
60 professionals from insurance industry across the country
gathered at K.N. Udupa Auditorium, Banaras Hindu University,
Varanasi for the National Conference on Insurance Industry in
India Agenda for Future. The conference was organized jointly
by Faculty of Commerce and Varanasi Insurance Institute
(Insurance Institute of India, Mumbai).
National Conference on Insurance Industry in India Agenda
for Future organised by us was proposed to provoke the different
stakeholders of Indian insurance industry to think, ponder and
attempt to contribute to a better understanding of different
burning issues on insurance related topics and which have an
impact on the lives of common man of India.
The national conference on insurance was a gathering of
insurance executives from corporate world, academicians,
research scholars & students. There were no experts dominating
the proceedings, no agenda for advancing a single point of
view. Rather, the participants took full advantage of an unusual
opportunity for exhilarating collegial exchange and knowledge-
sharing.
While the previous decade was primarily about growth, the next
decade will be on ensuring adequate focus on both growth and
profitability. The industry is at an inflection point today and is
entering into a crucial phase in terms of its evolution. While the
previous decade was primarily about growth, the next decade
will need to much more about balancing growth with profitability.
While the Indian insurance market will continue to be one of the
most attractive markets for growth globally, the paradigm for
success is likely to change significantly.
Conference
The change will be driven by discontinuities in regulations, customer
behaviour and technology adoption. In this context, the players who
will emerge winners will be those who can adapt swiftly to the new
paradigm. More importantly, developing a healthy industry with the
multi-fold objectives of penetration, reach and protecting consumer
interests will require co-ordinated efforts from all stakeholders
insurance companies, policy makers, other service providers.
The insurance industry is amid an exciting journey there needs to
be a persistent endeavour to sustain what has already been
achieved as well as expand beyond the current level. Furthermore,
several reforms and policy measures, especially during the last
couple of years, have enabled a favorable environment for
insurance companies to flourish in the country. The coming years are
critical as the regulator stance and approach of market
participants will govern the strength, stability and the sustained
growth of the insurance sector. The insurance sector has become a
major contributor to economic development, especially to
infrastructure development. This growth has been fuelled by India's
multiplying consumer class, rising insurance awareness, increasing
domestic savings and investments. Moreover, it has been the joint
effort of all stakeholders, including the government, regulator and
insurance companies to enable the positive momentum of this
industry. However, there is still a long way to cover on the road to
achieve financial inclusion and bring more and more people under
the insurance blanket.
The conference was constructed around four topical sessions
scheduled over two days. Each session began with a brief
presentation by an academic or non-profit practitioner, followed by
vigorous open discussion and debate, With the objective of
facilitating a discussion among various stakeholders on the future of
the insurance industry - its opportunities, threats and challenges for
various stakeholders & requirements for success, an open discussion
lasting for more than an hour was also conducted.
It was a with great honour & nice experience to organise a National
Conference on Insurance Subject matter organised for insurance
companies executives, academicians, research scholars, students,
distribution houses members, government officials and regulators,
broking firms, top management of insurance companies, reinsurers,
financial planners & independent insurance consultants, insurance
software solution companies and other service providers.

in Building a Relationship
Believe
The guiding ethos at Master of Financial Management (Risk & Insurance) is
to establish an intellectually stimulating and educative one-on-one
dialogue between students and intellectuals from both the academic and
corporate world. We at MFM-RI firmly believe that the relationship between
a corporate and the faculty does not end and begin with recruitment but
stabilizes and evolves with academic interaction between students and
senior executives of the company. Also, building a campus presence is an
essential first step in organizing a successful recruiting visit to MFM-RI
campus BHU. Prior information and contact aids the students to know the
company, its environment and the nature of work better. This helps the
students in taking an informed decision. It also assists the company in
evaluating the campus and students for a prospective long-term
relationship.

Team MFM-RI is a group of student leaders who have entrusted themselves with the task of building a strong industry relationship,
leading to the best of job profiles being offered on the campus. The committee works round the year and is one of the pillars
beneath the rise of MFM-RI course into one of the top course of the country.
Major Responsibilities: -
This is the first activity, which begins even before the academic year does. The importance stems from
the fact that the Brochure forms the face of the Institute before the corporate houses. The committee is involved in deciding the
theme, design and the content of the brochure. One look at the brochure and you will realize the amount of creativity, intellect
and effort that goes into bringing it to life.
Placements The Final Shot: This is the time which each soul on campus waits eagerly for and brings in its fold many curiosities,
anxieties and fears. This is the time when the real ability and skill of the placement committee comes into play. Everything required
for placements right from slotting companies and arranging the necessary infrastructure to conducting this highly taxing and
nerve-racking exercise is done by the committee with close guidance from faculty members. Team MFM-RI (as it is mostly called
on campus) is the one that lives through all this and converts this final shot into achievement.
The committee is the driving force behind the strong relationship MFM-RI maintains with the corporate world.
The committee members visit the major business and industrial houses across the country. The purpose of this activity is both to
strengthen the existing relationships with the corporate world as well as to invite new recruiters to the campus.
A series of sessions are arranged through the year, where students from the second year groom
those from the first year. This consists of sharing summers and final selection, resume preparation, giving group discussion and
interview tips and general counseling.
Alumni day is a great crescendo in managing tasks at hand in terms of inviting, logistics and event
organization. Our alumni form an integral part of the learning curve in terms of getting an industry perspective by way of guest
lectures, invited speaks and visiting faculty along with mentoring. It feels amazing to learn from the collective experience of yester
years.
Organizing conferences required inviting speakers, event
management skills, budgeting and garnering sponsorships which provide a platform to interact with corporate stalwarts on
challenges and opportunities in businesses today.
Student initiative undertaken by MFM-RI almost every year that sees participation from
industry stalwarts. It is an event keenly awaited by students, academicians and the industry. Your firm could be a part of the
Convention by either addressing the august gathering through a senior executive or by sponsoring the event. You can leverage
this opportunity to interact with the best. Industry and Academia have long shared a mutually beneficial relationship, and here at
MFM-RI, we respect and honor that tradition. We have a strong commitment to build durable and long-lasting relationships with
the corporate world.
STUDENT INITIATIVES: MFM-RI Students organize a diverse range of activities and events which contribute to their overall
intellect and help them to gain experience in planning and executing as a cohesive team. Learning at the faculty goes way
beyond the acquisition of knowledge, concepts and skills. The drive, initiative and proactive nature of the students finds an
expression through varied extracurricular activities and events. Be it course curricula tailor-made to meet the growing demands
of today's markets, imparting to students real-world applications of theoretical concepts through faculty from industry, or giving
students an insight into the professional world through our internship programs, MFM-RI has always strived to set the bar for

Amazing talent and top level attitude. These are the two qualities
which come prominently to my mind when I think about MFM-RI and
its students. In my interactions with them, I have realized they have
one thing which makes them strive harder than normal college
going people of their age and that is, HUNGER to prove
themselves.

Sr. Territory Manager, Reliance Life Insurance
"My association with MFM-RI BHU goes back a long way to some 3
years. The only reason I like to come to MFM-RI is the caliber and

speak "Besides the excellent teaching faculty (a mix of academicians and
practicing managers) and the facilities on offer, one of the distinct
advantages MFM-RI provides practices in banking & insurance
management - an opportunity for them to be involved in the successful
running of the institute which no other institute offers. The placement of
students and producing successful professionals is proof enough of this. I
owe a large part of my success in my professional career and personal life
to the exposure that I received at MFM-RI. I wish the batch of 2011- 2012
good luck in their goals for this year and a successful career ahead."

Ajay Kumar,
Senior Consultant, Casphor Micro Finance.
"The phrase alma mater is latin for nouricurriculum. 1)
activities 2) the freedom to take on multiple industry
projects, and 3) the diversity in class. These 3 factors were
instrumental in building my professional working style and
expanding my knowledge, in those two years. I truly believe
that the way people achieve things is as important as what
they achieve and MFM-RI till today influences the 'way' I
accomplish things in my life."

Rahul Keshri,
Loan Processing Officer, UBI
"I am delighted to see the rapid progress made by
the Institute over the last two years. The much
