Q1) Why does the duck envy the Kangaroo?
The duck likes the kind of lifestyle the kangaroo lives. He
appreciates his elegant hopping and envies his freedom
which allows him to tour the whole world.
Q2) Why does the duck describe his pond as `nasty?
The duck is bored and fed
up with his monotonous life which seems to be confined to
a pond. He describes the pond as `nasty` as he is
disgusted with the unpleasant smell and dirt around. He
longs to go out and explore the world.
Q3) What request does the duck make to the Kangaroo?
Why?
The duck requests the kangaroo to give him a ride on his
back so that he experiences nature to the fullest and
appreciate the mountains, fields, seas, etc. In the bargain
he promises to sit still without much movement or talk.
Q4) Why does the Kangaroo oblige the duck`s request?
The Kangaroo obliges the duck`s request as he thinks that
this trip might bring him luck and improve the quality of
his life.
Q5) Do you feel the poem is humorous? Why?
Yes, because one cannot see a duck and a Kangaroo going
together for a pleasure trip.A duck never wears socks or a
cloak. It does not smoke a cigar too. Moreover the fact that
the kangaroo does some serious thinking about
rheumatism brings added flavor to the poem.
