Abstract
The transmission and measurement of optical power
through kilometer lengths of optical fibers is degraded
by the nonlinear effect of Stimulated Brillouin
Scattering, SBS. The SBS effect causes excessive
amounts of input power to be reflected within the fiber,
limiting the achievable transmitted power.
By controlling the linewidth of the optical source, ideally
without adding noise, the SBS problem can be avoided
and high optical power can be launched into the fiber.
