Dear Sir/Madame:
I am writing in connection with the application of Ms. Samantha Mae Poblete to the IPC-DSA Master of Arts
in Sociology Scholarship Program. I would like to inform the admissions committee that it gives me very high
pleasure and honor to recommend Ms. Poblete to your graduate scholarship program. I firmly believe that Ms.
Pobletes character and professional work ethic fits very well the desired qualifications of an excellent graduate
student in sociology. Ms. Poblete will definitely be an asset to the department and to the university.
I came to know Ms Poblete when she first worked under my team as a survey enumerator for an AusAID
research project (which I lead) on identifying the barriers to inclusive education among children with
disabilities in the Philippines. I can very well remember her interview responses in the pool of more than 25
enumerators that worked on the household survey deployment from June to September 2012.She showed very
high curiosity and enthusiasm at working at the grassroots level and working with people from all walks of
life, and already at this point, showed great interest with field research. She has engaged herself in
desensitization workshop from which she was able to take an active role in sharing her field experiences with
other survey enumerators. Moreover, she has very strong rapport with everyone and easily established this with
the depressed urban communities during her field visits.
During her deployment in conducting interviews with parents of children with disabilities, she showed great
compassion and concern for them. Her field supervisor noted her timely submission of work outputs and
commended her for being a good example to her team mates. Her qualities and professional work ethic earned
her the top performing survey enumerator. Being a good communicator and writer as well, Ms. Poblete, as
described by her team mates, possessed leadership and communication skills that facilitated team work.
I have no doubt and it is with great conviction that I urge you to consider Ms Poblete for the graduate
scholarship. More than an investment, Ms. Poblete will make a good member of the flock of men and women
for others in country.
Very truly yours,
