Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION:
Bangladesh is a small country of south Asia. There are many village in Bangladesh.
The villages have a distinctive culture of its own set of norms, values, beliefs and attitudes. A
significant portion of the countrys population lives in the village and most of them are below
poverty line.Poverty and Deprivation, run down huts, a pleasant environment filled with
greenery and hardworking people these are the ideas that build up the vision of the rural
Bangladesh in the minds of most city dwellers. But the real scenario is somewhat different. Now
a days the villagers seem to have brought a huge change in their perception, their ways of living
and their attitudes towards things. Like the urban people, Villagers are now concerned about their
lifestyle, education, their rights, the dawn of technical wonders and the ongoing modernization.
The only thing they lack is the opportunity to embrace them. They have been provided the same
kind of opportunities available to those who lives in urban areas .they would not be left this far
behind. But still life goes on in the villages on its own pace.

It is very important for everyone to get the idea about village people, their life style, culture,
believes, habits, feelings, attitude and their rights and economy. And for those information we
should go close to them and visit the villages and it is also very impotent for our new generation
who has no idea about villages and village people.

From that purpose Independent university, Bangladesh sends their students to rural area every
year to know about the village people and their culture. And the course name is LFE (Live-inField Experience). We the student of section 09 has been assigned to visit RANGPUR to collect
data and information from the local people of the particular area. Rangpur is one of the huge
populated districts in Bangladesh. We go one part of this huge district which is known as
THANGAMARA MOHILA SHOMOBAI SOMITI (TMSS) in the hurt of the town. There were
84 students which contains 42 pairs and 17 groups. Different pairs with different groups visited
three different villages. I enjoyed the village and the village people very much.

Chapter 2 Description of the study area:

CLIMATE
June to August are the Monsoon months in Bangladesh. The occurrence of rainfall is
greatest at the season end in the month of August. The rain is heaviest in coastal and hill
areas compared to the plains. Dry season is between February and June. Barind tract gets
Monsoon rains and the climate is hot and humid with temperature variation of 25-35
degree Celsius in summer and 9-15 degree Celsius in winter. Its weather condition is
classified into 4 types: pre-Monsoon, Monsoon, post-Monsoon and winter. The mean
annual rainfall in Bangladesh is 2,300 mm. Rainfall in the Northwest region varies from
place to place and from year to year, and compares poorly with the rest of the country,
having an average of about 1,971 mm.

SOIL
The chandanpath union in Rangpur Sadar the soil is known to have a sandy stratum
below the rapidly permeable cultivatable top soil, resulting in soil moisture loss through
seepage. This increases cost of crop production through irrigation. The soils are also
known to be low in organic matter content, at below 1%. Healthy soils should have 2.55% organic matter for good fertility and productivity. Water retention in the river or
ponds is a benefit to the farmer as it reduces seepage loss from cropped land.

RAINFALL SITUATION
Rainwater is a very important source of natural water. It recharges groundwater and fills
dried surface water bodies. However, the monsoon rainfall is decreasing in the Northern
areas of Bangladesh. The following tables show the rainfall status in Rangpur Sadar. This
information was provided by the Bangladesh Metrological Department
