THE PRESENT PERFECT TENSE

The Present Perfect describes actions that have begun in the past but still valid in the
present. The verb form to use is the Past Participle form of the verb and the auxiliary
verbs are have and has. Its important to know the verbs in past participle form.

EXAMPLES

The contracted form of have is ve and the negative form is havent.


The contracted form of has is s and the negative form is hasnt

SARAH JACKSON
Tennis Player
Sarah Jackson is a tennis player. She is only 16 years old, but she
has already won many tournaments in her short life.
She started playing tennis with her father when she was 3 years old. Four years ago she
came to the United States to a famous school in Boston. Sarah and her father have
traveled to many countries to participate in tennis tournaments. In June this year they
went to a tournament in Australia. Sarah has played well, but she hasnt won. She hasn
t played at Wimbledon yet, but she hopes to play, participate and win there next year.

SPECIAL WORDS IN PRESENT PERFECT

1. Yet Still : They are often used in negative sentences.


They havent had lunch yet.

They still havent had lunch.

2. For- Since : They are often used to talk about spaces of time.
Shes been sick for five days.
Shes been sick since Monday.

3. Ever Never : Ever is used for questions and Never is used to negate.
