Gasco - Course Structure and Lesson Objectives
Day 1
0830 1000 Introduction and Enrolment
1000 1100 International and National Regulations and codes of pratice
Lecturer to go through PowerPoint on International and national Regulations.
After the session the candidate will be able to understand the relevant
regulations, conventions and code of practice as they apply to Gas tankers.
Have knowledge of legal implications, responsibilities and consequences. And
have knowledge of use of the IGC code, and other industry guidelines.
1100 1330 Properties of Liquefied Gases
Lecturer to go through PowerPoint on Properties of Liquefied Gases.
After the session the candidate will be able to understand the molecular
structure of common hydro carbon and chemical gases. The relations between
molecular structure and physical properties of these gases. Have knowledge
of four states of matter, liquid and vapour densities, classification hydrocarbon
and chemical gases, Saturated & Unsaturated Vapour Pressure, Critical
Temperature and Pressure, dew point and bubble point, diffusion and mixing
of gases, Brittle Fracture, Composition of Liquefied Gases.
1330 1400 Lunch
After the session the candidate will have the knowledge of health hazards /
toxicity associated with the cargo, understanding of the TLV system of
measuring exposure limits. TLV values of various gases, Effects and
precautions of frostbite, Oxygen deficiency, Precautions when entering
Enclosed Spaces, Jettisoning of cargo, Preventing Pollution, Information
available on Material Safety Data Sheets.
Day 3
0830 1000 Gas Carrier Design
Lecturer to go through Power Point on Gas Carrier design.

After the session the candidate will have knowledge of Gas carrier general
layout and requirements.
1000 1330 Cargo Equipment
Lecturer to go through Power Point on Cargo Equipment.
After the session the candidate will have knowledge of the construction and
operation of the types of cargo pumps used on Gas Carriers, Precautions to
prevent seizing due to hydrates, design and operation of relief valves on cargo
tanks and cargo piping, expansion devices, flame screens, Gas dangerous
zones, Emergency Shut Down systems, construction of cargo heaters,
vapourizers, compressors, condensers, liquid separators, inter-stage cooler.
1330 1400 Lunch
1400 1600 Cargo Equipment
Lecturer to go through Power Point on Cargo Equipment.
After the session the candidate will have knowledge of the LNG boil off and
use of cargo as a fuel, design and construction of Inert Gas Generator, level
gauges, level alarms, instrumentation and use of electrical equipment in gas
hazardous areas, Custody Transfer System onboard LNG ships.
1600 1700
Cargo Calculations
Lecturer to go through Power Point, Exercise.
After the session the candidate will have knowledge to perform cargo
measurements and calculations of liquid phase, vapour phase, OBQ, ROB and
boil off cargo calculations.
Day 4
0830 1330 Cargo Operational Cycle
Lecturer to go through Power Point, Exercise and Advance Gas tanker
Simulation Equipment to familiarise the candidates with Gas tanker
Operations.
After the session the candidate will have knowledge of processes of drying,
inerting, gassing up, cooling down, loading, cargo conditioning (Sea passage),
unloading procedure., ballasting, stripping.
