~ Dinner With the Current World

Rotary President - Jan 3, 2016 ~
Many of you will remember the World President
of Rotary, Ravi Ravindran from Sri Lanka
visited our Club a year and a half ago. We have

Our Speaker, James Wright, with President Raj.

James began his talk by describing the house

that was built in Orinda in 1890 by Alexander
Jenkins, a sea captain. He then described some
recent architectural insulation, heating and
cooling techniques that are available to build
efficient energy and healthful living homes.

One of the goals in renovating this home was to

reuse as much of the original material as
possible while taking advantage of newer energy
saving techniques.
Another goal was to provide a healthy living
environment free from mold and other air
contaminants. Techniques employed in the
home to satisfy these goals included:

The use of solar energy for heating.

The use of nocturnal cooling from the
ground.
The ability to store both the heat and
cooling energy collected.
The use of fans to move stale air from the
inside outside and fresh air from the
outside, inside.
The use of a heat exchanger to heat or
cool the air as required.
The air is filtered as it travels through the
system.

The Assembly Line At Work

More information is available on James website

http://green.jpwarch.com/.
Much
more
information is available describing many of the
environmentally friendly projects in which James
is involved.
Thank you, James, for a fascinating half hour!!
Dianne Wilson had the lucky ticket this week
but the white marble remained hidden!!

Linda May and Marilyn Simonsen Filling the Boxes

From The Editor

Well, the holiday season is upon us!! Last
weekends stocking stuffing sure put me in the
mood!! It never ceases to amaze me how
events and projects come together. From the
cutting out and sewing of the stockings, the
decoaration with the girls at Juvenile Hall and
finally the stuffing of the stockings and delivery
to the Juvenile Hall.
What a wonderful
collaboration of social and community activity
involving most of our members and many
spouses and friends.
Angelo Costanza and The Raj

I think this is what Rotary is all about!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all!!
