AN ANALYSIS OF THE POEM
TO MY FELLOW CHILDREN

Life is a precious thing that God-given to us that we need to be thankful.

Furthermore, life is not like cd that we can repose, stop, rewind, and even past forward
with the moments that you dont want. Your purpose in life is to use your gifts and
talents to help other people. God give us talents not to put our names in lights, but to
bring light into the life of others that surrounds us.
I believe that everyone has a talent, skills, or ability that we possess in ourselves.
You must put efforts and be motivated in your works to attain your goals in life.
Everything held in smooth ways you dont need to do harsh way to correct mistakes.
Studying for honors and recognition is not the only thing that matters. If you have
talents, use it in the worth sense which is possible as well as Dr. Jose Rizal did. The
people surrounds us must have faith and trust to us to strengthen our inner part and
motivates us in everything we do.
Dr. Jose Rizal is very talented he was a polymath, with the ability to
master various skills and subject. He was given by GOD with superb intellectual, moral
and physical qualities. All of us are talented in our own way. We just need to recognize
our capacity and develop our talents to their full potentials. Each one of us is special in
the sense that we have our own calling, which may or may not be in line with what the
others can do.
He is very surprising that at the age of eight, he composed his first poem in
Tagalog which is Sa Aking Mga Kababata or To My Fellow Children that is translated
in English. Not all children can do a poem because its a time for playing and enjoying
the moments while being a child. In his young age he has seen potentials to become a
great poet and genius. No wonder he is entitled as the Philippine National Hero in this
country.
In the first stanza of the poem, Rizal wants us to open our eyes in the reality of
life. We must love our own language because we are a Filipino citizen. Our country will
pursue liberty if all of us will give full support to the country where we belong. Loving our
own country and languages are the best contribution that we can contribute. He also
emphasizes the bird which is generally thought to symbolism freedom, they can walk on
the earth and swim in the sea as humans do but they also have the ability to soar into
the sky. Birds are free to roam to earth and the sky.

The second stanza is also about the language that we are using in daily
interaction with others. Language is our tool in expressing our ideas and to recognize
the identity of each one. In this stanza, it indicates that our language that we use in day
to day activities is a God-given treasure to us. Moreover, it wants us to protect and to
preserve our language to give legacy in the next generations.
In the third stanzas, Whoever knows not how to love his native tongue is worse
than any best or evil smelling fish it says that you should be proud of what native
tongues you have wherever you are. The more you deny, the more it makes suspicious.
You dont need to hide your native tongues because your tone in speaking can already
distinguishes of what identity you have. There are many people who have reached
other foreign country, they enjoying the environment and adapted the foreign language
and culture that they visited or worked for. Its sad to think about that our countryman is
not patronizing our own native tongues which are the legacy of our ancestor to us. It
must be spread and introduce to others wherever you are. Dont forget the origin you
belong and you must be proud of.
