Evaluation Question 3 What have you learned from your

audiences feedback?
One of the tasks which the planning and research included was to produce
questionnaires for audiences to fill out. Having questionnaires filled out before
and after the production was a great way for our production to receive accurate
feedback. Receiving feedback before making any plans had helped our
production as it allowed us to gain an idea on what codes and conventions which
the audiences are generally expecting. Also, getting feedback from audiences
about our production would allow me to understand where I can improve in my
next performance.
The feedback which we received from audiences came through in the form of
recorded feedback via the internet. With having the questionnaire available for
audiences to fill out online and in person, it helped widen the ways which
audiences can take part in the questionnaire. The data had been recorded and
processed through an online programme called Survey Monkey. Survey Monkey
allowed me to see the results which audiences had filled out and with this I was
able to present the results visually through the use of graphs and charts.
The short video had been produced to solely see what people thought about the
productions final media product. The video involved a focus group participating
to answer the questions regarding my short film. The videos purpose was to
ensure that our production was aware if our targeted audience understood the
aspects of the film such as the storyline and interpreting the correct
representations. Luckily, when I received the feedback from audiences I was able
to produce a Drama genre film which included codes and conventions which
audiences would want to see. From looking at the pre-questionnaire I was able to
gain an understanding what the audience wanted to expect in a Drama film such
as the intense emotions and suicidal thoughts. However, I had hoped that
audiences had enjoyed and had a pleasant experience whilst watching the short
film despite the negative intentions.
Having an online questionnaire allowed our production to receive feedback from
audiences in different ways other than in person. This allowed audiences to
provide our production feedback via internet which was easily accessible, making
it convenient for our audience which happens to increase the chances of the
results being more accurate.
Below are the pre-questionnaire and post questionnaire on our blog address. The
reason on why we had decided to have an online questionnaire is simply because
we thought it be highly convenient for our audience. Also, once the participants
finish the questionnaire they would be able to see the steps we had taken in the
production, for instance, from looking at the weekly updates the participant
would be able to see how we progressed over time.

Have the data collected and read thoroughly we are happy to say that learning
from our pre-questionnaire has helped us meet the targeted audiences needs.

Prequestionnaire:
Had a number of males and females who participated in the prequestionnaire from different age groups. We had done this to make sure
the questionnaire had been beneficial for us as our targeted audience
tends to be both male and females therefore having a mixture of males
and females taking part in the questionnaire is a great way for us to
receive accurate results.
Audiences had been selected from all ages ranging from 10 to 23+
allowing the questionnaire to be answered by people from different age
groups.
The questionnaire had helped our production be aware of what genre
which audiences generally enjoy watching. The responses received were
that Drama films had been the most liked genre which had increased the
motivation as at this point our film idea wouldve fallen under Drama.

After they read our script we had found out that our short film would be
preferred to be released during the winter season. This had help finalise a
release date for our production which was best convenient for audiences
as well as to maximise the relation to the season.
The pre-questionnaire made the production more aware of what exactly
audiences liked about Drama films. Majority of those who answered said
that the different emotions which help build a sympathetic atmosphere.
Majority of the participants were able to understand and identify the genre
clearly after reading the script and synopsis. This had been a good thing
for our production as it allowed all members including myself to see that
where would need to improve on and that we as a production would need
to ensure that the film has typical codes and conventions of a Drama
genre film.
The responses which we received from the question What do you
normally expect in a drama movie? had been a great method to
understand what audiences tend to expect in a drama film. Majority of the
participants had answered with Death and Tragedy and from this we
made sure, that we planned to include scenes where the themes death
and tragedy had been noticeable.
From receiving feedback from our selected participants it had been a great
way to take all answers into note and to ensure that all answers had been
realistic as not all answers could be accurate therefore, we had to find the
average amount of answers from the results and had reacted once the results
were clear. The major action which we had taken as a group was the script
and synopsis. This had been because from looking at the pre-questionnaire it
was evident that not all participants were able to identify the genre and
storyline clearly.

Post questionnaire:
We had the same amount of participants to take part in the post
questionnaire compared to the pre-questionnaire. Taking another
questionnaire after the entire production had been ideal as it allowed our
production is aware of where we could improve on in future projects.
The video attached demonstrates the different audiences who participated
and from the video you are able to identify the different age groups which
the audiences fall under. The questionnaire had been answered by a
mixture of males and females as evident from the video.
All members in the video were able to answer confidently that they were
able to identify the genre after the film had finished. This helps to show
how we as a production had taken the pre-questionnaire into note and to
be carefully planned in order to make the genre clear to audiences.
All members who took part in the questionnaire believed that the locations
used in the film were adequate and appropriate for the film. Planning the
locations and getting permission for certain locations had been tough to
deal with whilst being under pressure.

70% of the participants strongly believed that the sound used in the entire
short film had been good. The sound included the ambient, sound effects
and voiceover and having it planned to an extent has led it to meeting the
audiences expectations.
7 out of 10 participants had answered that the fonts used in the short film
were not entirely appropriate for the film. This could be an area where our
production could improve on, on future media products.

WWW & EBI in relation to our short film:

EBI

I was satisfied with the final outcome of

the entire production with delivering the
final media product at a good standard.

Even though we covered all aspects

really well, I still believe that we could
have slightly improved on the editing.
For instance, using a various special
effects to help our film look unique.
I still feel that we could of found
locations which helped make our film
seem more realistic such as filming
inside a hospital. However, to get hold
of a hospital permit it would have
required constant emails and phone
calls. Having a real life running hospital
wouldve helped our film seem more
realistic to our audience.
One other improvement which I believe
we couldve improved on is to add more
voiceover to the script as this would
have helped the editor. It wouldve
helped the editor as he would be able to
try editing a wide range of sound files to
the scenes.

Producing the short film had been a

thrilling experience and I was very
pleased and grateful with the cast and
crewmembers experience. It was great
how all members had worked in a
professional manner and had helped
make our short film look realistic and
believable.
One of the aspects, which I as the
director thought went well, was the
different range of cinematic shots and
angles for our final media product.
Other aspect, which we had covered at
a good quality, was the different sound
effects and ambient sounds used in the
film.
I happen to be extremely pleased with
the audiences feedback and how
satisfied they were with the final media
product. It was pleasant to receive
feedback from audiences and how they
were able to relate to the protagonist of
the film.

I also feel that the score music used in

our film couldve been more tense and
emotional as this aspect played a huge
role to the film and it had been a
difficult process to get hold of good
score which had been non-copyright.
