ABOUT THE
COLLEGE R.M.K. Engineering College (RMKEC), started in the year 1995 has acquired recognition and public acknowledgement as one of the top ranking institutions in Tamil Nadu State. In 2008, the College was conferred Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan National Award for its Overall Performance, followed by the Best Principal Award in the year 2012, by the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) New Delhi. The college has been achieving Academic Excellence for the past 15 years and has always been in the top 10 positions among all the engineering colleges affiliated to Anna University. RMKEC has also been maintaining an excellent placement record all these years. The College has been rated as one of the 20 engineering institutions across India for having the best academia-industry tie-up based on a CII AICTE Joint Survey. The college has established Centers of Excellence (COE) in various disciplines like Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Digital Enterprise, Building Management Systems (BMS) and Embedded Systems to provide industry oriented training and skill building to students in focus areas as guided by the Advisory Committees consisting of the industry experts in the respective disciplines. The College has been undertaking a lot of activities as a part of its Corporate (Institutional) Social Responsibility to provide services to the rural areas in and around the College, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Gummidipoondi Industrial City, M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation and reputed hospitals (for blood donation camps). It has also been trying to sensitize the student community on their social obligations and the need to exploit engineering and technology for rural empowerment and development.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Civil Engineering was stared in the academic year 2006-07 with a vision to impart quality education and to produce professionally competent Civil Engineers accomplishing global needs with right attitude towards social responsibility with a team of highly qualified faculty with the rich experience in diversified streams of Civil Engineering. The department has all the necessary laboratories pertaining to the curriculum of Anna University, Chennai which are fully equipped with state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and modern equipments for training students of Civil Engineering and other disciplines for their interdisciplinary experiments and also carryout Ph.D. level research activities. Since its inception the department is showing consistent growth in academic excellence and placements. The department is actively involved in consultancy activities like material testing, concrete mix design, soil testing, water quality testing and surveying using total station. The department also organizes Short term training programs, Faculty development programs, Workshops, Seminars and Value added training programs every year as a part of continuing education for enhancement and upgradation of faculty's knowledge. The department has been awarded Construction Industry Awards 2014 for the Excellence in Civil Engineering Education and also has received the ICI (Chennai Centre) - Ultra Tech Award 2015 for Outstanding Student Chapter of Tamil Nadu.
