EXCLUSIVE SUMMARY
Wulala DIY is an online-based business which will run for one month. The products
offering by Wulala DIY are bookmark and candy. Wulala DIY is a business based in
University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). The word DIY in the business name has clearly

mean that the business is offering handmade products. The bookmark providing is handmade
by the owners of Wulala DIY. The design team have designed various pattern of bookmarks
to target larger market segments, besides that, customers could request for customized
bookmark. Bookmark is an important tool for a student, it can mark down the page of a book
while studying which has make a students life easier. Candy helps avoid student from getting
sleepy in class, Wulala DIY has chosen Kopiko coffee candy and Lemon Ice Tea candy as
coffee candy including caffeine that keeps student awake in long period classes while Lemon
Ice Tea candy brings sweetness which boost the glucose level. The owners of Wulala DIY
have assigned themselves into a few position such as CEO, secretary, treasurer, sales and
delivery. Every owners have invested RM15 each in the business for the start-up funding.

BACKGROUND
MISSION STATEMENT

Wulala DIY has been created with the thought of the benefits of the consumer. Wulala
DIYs mission is to fulfil the need of the customer in the study aspect which is why we
decided to sell bookmarks and candies. We believe that through the selling of bookmarks can
help in easing the life of a students. We all know that students are has to revise or read a book
and will stopped at a certain pages. With that thought we choose to design a selected
bookmarks based on the desire of the customers for them to put in between the pages that
they left. Customers may choose a design and our planning and designing team will start to
work on the theme that had been chosen. Meanwhile, for the candies, we got the idea
according to our own situation which is all so common in a students life. Students are prone
to be sleepy during the lecture or in class for three hours straight, so we agree that by
providing a candies selling business can help them to be more focused during class. We
provide 2 types of candies that is very popular among the consumer regardless they are a
candies fanatic or merely just a usual candies consumer.

COMPANY HISTORY

Wulala DIY founded on 13th of October, 2015. Wulala DIY are chosen as the official
business name after a long debate between members which are very hard task as it what
symbolize the image of Wulala DIY business.
Wulala DIY is based on a student-oriented. It is also and online business type. This
business selling customized bookmarks and candies. As far as we know, students always had
to revise their thick books so they had to mark a certain page after finish revise for the day.
As they left the revise at a certain page sometime they would forgot on which page it is. So in
order to ease this problem we come out with the idea to selling bookmarks and in advance we
design it in a creative and pretty way to the liking of the customers.
Students are prone to face a sleepiness and fatigue problems while in a three hours class.
We choose to sell candies to the students in class in order for them to stay focus in class. The
candies we sells are Kopiko which contain a small amount of caffeine so it can re-freshen the
buyer. While another one is Lemon Ice Tea, Cloud 9 brand which easily captured the heart of
the buyers for the taste of it.
The business consists of 6 persons in the team. For the position in the group, we had
agreed that the CEO is Tan Jiayi, Debbie Diyang Weng as the secretary. This followed by
Apple Wong Su Wen as our treasurer while our salesperson is Teow Jiar Li. The delivery
team is hold by our two gentlemen that are Lee Kok Chien and Guan Kee.

MARKETING

MARKET RESEARCH
Market research is process which combine analysing and interpreting information
about a market. Market research contains two type of data. There are Primary information
and secondary information. Primary information is information that can collect for the
purpose of research project. Secondary information is information collect for purpose other
than research project but has some relevance and utility for your business.
Wulala DIY is using primary information as the information to run the business. This
business get its information of the market using the method of human observation. Human
observation is a process of observing action of human. We carry out human observation in
University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). The owners observed the students need and want.
From the observation, we know that students in University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) do
read a lot of books and they are lack of bookmarks. This is the main reason why we have
started our business by selling bookmarks. Next, from the research we know that students
love candies no matter man or lady, students in UNIMAS usually have candy to avoid
themselves from getting sleepy in long period lecture. As we know that there are many stores
in University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) is offering candy so we have selected the
suitable candies and selling it at the lowest price.

MARKET ANALYSIS

Swot analysis consists of strength, weakness, opportunity and threat. Strength is the
power that the organization has to fight with their competitors. Weakness is the activities that
organization does not do or does not work smoothly. Opportunity is the chances that was in
positive way and have brighter future in economic situation. Threats are risks and dangerous
that company must take to face their business competitors.
The strength of Wulala DIY is offering handmade bookmark and selling it at the
lowest price. By offering customized handmade bookmark in the lowest price has attracted
more customers from different market segments. People would more likely to appreciate
something that is customized and handmade. With the customized bookmark, it could attract
more customers from different market segments because they are allow to select the designs
they wanted it to be.
The weakness of Wulala DIY is do not have any promotion. Promotion is one of the
best methods to attract customer to buy more. As Wulala DIY is already selling their products
in a lower profit way, promotion would lead to no profit. In the meanwhile, without any
promotion would cause Wulala DIY fail to attract customers to purchase more with them.
The opportunity of Wulala DIY is they can fight among their competitors. The reason
Wulala DIY can fight with their competitors is they provide lower price than other company.
By providing the lower price, Wulala DIY can attract customer to buy it. New product
development is also the opportunity of Wulala DIY. New products are important to attract
customer because most of the customer are more interested about the product that are special,
new and unique. Therefore, Wulala DIY is offering customized bookmark.
The treats of the Wulala DIY is they have many competitors. As there are many stores
in UNIMAS are also selling candies, Wulala DIY would have to set the lowest price to attract
more customers.

MARKET PLAN

Target Market
The target market of Wulala DIY is the students in University Malaysia Sarawak
(UNIMAS) as the business is based and will be running in UNIMAS. Wulala DIY has target
the students which stay and study in UNIMAS as their main customers for their business
which their age is around 19-24 year old. The students income are usually based on their
family and government debt. The cost of the product had been set to the lowest price, so its
affordable for every students.
Distribution Channel
Wulala DIY used Cash on Delivery (COD) method as their distribution channel.
Wulala DIY promoted their products through a Facebook page. The customer first make an
order to the sale department, the sales department then contact the design team and the design
team will pass it to the delivery department, the delivery department will collect the payment
from customer and lastly pass to the treasurer.
Pricing
Since the target market is UNIMAS student, Wulala DIY has set the price in an
affordable pricing and also the lowest. This is not only to compete with the competitors of the
business,but also to attract more customers due to their limited income.

EVALUATION OF MARKET

Small business like Wulala DIY, their marketing requires constant evaluation to
ensure its success. Marketing initiatives cannot just be launched and left to sink or swim on
their own. They must be monitored in a variety of ways so they deliver the maximum benefits
possible

while

eliminating

costly

errors

and

loss

of

market

share.

Firstly, Wulala DIY need to survey their customer to find out what they think of their
marketing campaigns. Ask what caused them to choose Wulala DIY over their competitors
with either a written, verbal or online survey. Each has its benefits and drawbacks, but all will
deliver the data that need to evaluate of their marketing. Wulala DIY need to ask if their
product are attractive and if not, ask what would make them happier customers. Use this very
valuable feedback to customize the marketing so it suits their existing customers better and
attract new customer as well.
Next, Wulala DIY need to monitor the actions of their competitors to determine
whether their marketing is affecting them in anyway. If their competitors marketing starts to
look like Wulala DIY, they can surmise that it is having an impact on competitor sales and
competitor are adjusting in order to keep up. A substantial increase in marketing efforts from
their competitors can also signify a desire to combat the effect of Wulala DIY work.
Finally, Wulala DIY need to evaluate their expansion. If their marketing reach is
expanding, the effectiveness of their plan is probable cause. Marketing that makes its ways
into new regions either by customer recommendation or natural growth indicates both a
successful and popular product or experience and an effective marketing message. The
expansion of their marketing budget is another sign that their plan is working well and has
gained more support from company.

OPERATION AND PRODUCTION

Operation and production is about the transformation of production and operational


inputs into "outputs" that, when dispersed, meet the needs and wants of customers.
Production means application in the processes. Operations Management is the alteration
of inputs into outputs, using physical resources, so as to provide the anticipated conveniences
of form, possession, place or state or a integrate there of to the customer while meeting the
other organizational objectives of adaptability, efficiency and effectiveness. It differentiates
itself from other functions such as marketing and personnel.
Wulala DIY online shop is our business name. It started business from 13 rd October
2015. Wulala DIY is not a fixed business location because it proceed business through online
business which is Facebook and Instagram. Online business is the trend nowadays so Wulala
DIY advertise though internet which is easy and informative on our target customers who is
UNIMAS students. Jack Ma, a famous people in the internet business and he is founder and
Chairman of Alibaba Group, who always said the network can create everything, it can
create a huge amount of business in a minute and a second.
Wulala DIY proceed partnership modality which have 6 members in Wulala DIY.
Chairman of Wulala DIY is Tan Jiayi, position of secretary is Debbie Deyang Weng, treasurer
is Apple Wong Su Wen, sales department is Teow Jiar Li and delivery service is Lee Kok
Chien and Lee Guan Kee. In the process of operation, Lee Kok Chien and Lee Kuan Kee
responsible to purchase factor of production and Tan Jiayi, Apple Wong Su Wen, Teow Jiar Li
and Debbie Deyang Wen in charge of production unit. Production unit is divide into two part
which design bookmark and packaging candies. Each member are the administrators
Facebook and Instagram so that customer can order product through Facebook massage, call
in, WhatsApps and other. Wulala DIY have put detail of contact way on the online page such
as phone number of each member. For refresh Facebook and Instagram is work by Teow Jiar
Li. Wulala DIYs suppliers is Mr. DIY in Summer Mall and POPULAR in City One
Shopping Mall. Before the selected suppliers, Debbie Diyang Weng, secretary have done the
market research to ensure the inputs on the lowest price in area Kota Samarahan and Kuching
in Sarawak. The Chairman responsible to control all these process.

Wulala DIY procedure production by integration. In this type of production various


components of the products are collected together to get the anticipated product. In this
process, materials used to make products may change. The product, bookmark will depend

request of customers. Wulala DIY create DIY service to attract our customer in UNIMAS.
Customers can request any design such as craft name or any words on bookmarks. Many type
cartoon bookmark been retail which is Minion, My Melody, Hello Kitty, Mickey Mouse and
others. For candies packet product assembly two flavour which is coffee flavour and lemon
tea flavour. Consumers may choose any flavour they want.
For product DIY bookmarks, material equipment are ice-cream stick and colour pens.
We choose ice-cream stick be our material because it is cheap and more sturdy and durable
than paper. It also convenient to DIY without cut and shape up it by tools. If use paper to
make bookmarks, paper need cut and laminate. Compare of two material, ice-cream stick had
been chosen. Candies packets needs candies and mini plastic bag while theres two flavours
of candy.
Each member invested RM15 to be Wulala DIYs start-up funding. The total funding
is RM 90 in our business. The detailed report will in the financial report by Apple Wong Su
Wen.
In conclusion, operation and production is important part in our business. Wulala DIY
try to use the factors of production on the price minimum to make a maximum profits. All the
owners in Wulala DIY share out the work and cooperate with another make this business
successful.

FINANCIAL PROJECTIONS

The owners of Wulala DIY will each invest RM15 in the business for the start-up funding.
Our start-up funding includes materials for making the bookmarks and candies. The balance
from the investment is then given back to the owners.
