Introduction
The actual rural camp is precede by two weeks of camp preparation to actual camp.
This will include pilot visits to the village for identification of the camp site,
projects to be implanted, and to liaise with local community, various NGOS and
government department to conduct the rural camp in a particular place.
Objectives
To make the social work trainees to experience group living and to initiate and
participate in development work in a village identified by the department and the
students together.
To expose the students to rural life & living
To enable the students to learn by carrying our development projects after
identifying local need.
To help them develop capacities and attitudes suitable for a group living.
To inculcate the spirit of working in a team.
To practice the skills developed during the project field work component.
Pre-camp planning and stages:

Students are given a wide chance of taking up responsibilities with leadership. The
camp leaders are elected and the students organizing the camp are divided onto
various committees and are delegated with their responsibilities.
The student who are selected to represent the class are guided by the faculty
members for visiting the purposed places and identify the needs and interests of
people through professional interactions.
Thus the place suggested and selected was kothagiri, Nilgiris Dist, Tamil Nadu. A
pilot visit was undertaken by 4 students and 1 faculty member to identify the needs
and social constraints prevailing. During the pilot visit, the camp leaders were
accompanied by the camp director and with two more students heading different
committees, paid visits to the offices of social institutions like gram panchayat with
the unleashing support of no- island trust, visiting the officials were facilitated and
that helped in broader and clear planning thus the villages identified around
kothagiri were
Bangala padigai
Sedikkal and pambarai
Kothimukku
Kunjapannai
Karikaiyur for various social constraints encountered by the villagers.
Hence forth discussions were held to devise the desired plans, programmes,
source of funds, involvement of people in the programme collecting material
contacting experts for lectures and as guests.
Role as a leader in pre camp
As a leader have to communicate between the faculty and students
Have to arrange preparations for every general body meeting.
Have to deligate the work to their committee heads of their work.
As a leader, overview the every committee heads whether they are working on it
Analyse the general body meeting feedbacks of facultys and make some
instructions to the committee leaders for the betterment in the next general body
meeting.
As a leaders we have to give invite for general body meeting to faculty coordinators, head of the department, principle and other staffs. Invites will be
prepared by documentation team.
Three to four general body reviews happened it helped us a lot to improve our
preparations for camp.
On camp
After all preparations made we reached the camp place kothagiri. We started our
rural camp journey by making all the preparations into live we stayed in a ngo
called island trust they supported lot for our rural camp preparation to make alive
with the help of this ngo we started our rural camp journey.
Day Wise Activities- On Camp (28/8/12-2/9/12)
Day 1: 28/8/12
Activities
Rural camp inauguration
Rally on creating awareness on AIDS and about Education Importance
Plant Sapling at kodanadu
We started our rural camp inauguration by inviting the chief guest mr.srinivasa
Reddy IFS officer with the help of NGO island trust. Inauguration programme
schedule is prepared by project committee and made the program successful. As a
leader we facilitate the chief guest my role in inauguration I gave vote of thanks
chief guest speech inspired the students and it motivated to do our rural camp work
successful
After inauguration we commence rally on creating awareness on AIDS project
committee allocated the students for the arrangements chief guest Mr. Srinivasa
Reddy. IFS flags off our rally. Rally went successfully
After lunch, we started from island trust and went to kodanadu tea estate where
they planted the saplings as an eco-friendly measure taken by the island trust
Day 2
Activities
Camp on Bangalapadigai Village
Base Line survey are the allocated villages
Awareness programs and PRA
Student we all reached Bangalapadigai village as per the schedule prepared by
project committee every student delegated their work to be done Base Survey was
taken by every students
Base line survey questions prepared by the project committee every students got
a chance to interact with community people those who are all living in threat place
From the pilot visit observation and NGO enquiry we identified the some of the
problems faced by the village
Elephant- Man Conflict.
Early Marriage
NO Education Awareness
Based on these problems project committee advised the cultural committee to
prepare awareness programs of the village so as per project committee feed back
about the village cultural committee prepared the awareness programs and they
performed well in the community
As a leaded our role is to check whether the delegated work is properly took
place or not and the screw the students to make their work properly done.
Day 3
Activities
Camp on Paambarai Village
Trekking
School programs
Base Lie Survey at Kadasolai and Sedikkal
As per schedule of project committee we landed in a paambarrai village. All
students started trekking and also students divided for the base line survey.
Trekking was a wonderful experience which every student cant forgot this in their
life. One of the sweet memories in life in camp After trekking every student started
their base line survey as per the schedule of project committee
After finishing the survey and trekking students started the preparation for the
evening cultural program at school. Every preparation as been made by the work
delegated to them
Cultural committee took in charge of the program and prepare schedule of the
day cultural committee performed very well on threat day performance very well
on that day performance took place consciously even though rain took place
continuously till the program end. Cultural activities like puppet show, street play
and dance programs took place for the community people

Activities
Camp on Kunjappannai village
Sports competition cookery competition
Base line survey
All Students landed in kunjapannai village students were separated as group to
conducted the school sports from 1st to 12th std. some students went to conduct
cookery competition on the community for ladies
Our college principal Dr.Fathima Vasanth and Head of the department marry
Angeline visited our rural camp. They both took part in our camp programs as a
chief guest. They distributed the prize for the students who won in the sports
conducted by students,

Day 5
Activities
Camp on karikayur village
Medical camp at karikayur Govt. Hr .Sec School
Sports competition were conducted
Medical Committee is planed and organised the medical camp in the village for
the community people and school students. Medical camp organised well with the
help of the local govt hospital doctor and with some of our students.
Evening cultural programs were organised by the cultural committee program
went very well doctor has been invited as chief guest for evening cultural program
and he distributed the prizes for the students who participated and won in the
sports conducted by the students
This is the last day of our rural camp. We organised our valeditictory in Island
Trust Valditictory went successful with the help of NGO and Students who
organised from project committee HOD attended the valeditictory and returned to
Chennai next day morning
POST CAMP
After finishing successfully our camp we have final general body meeting
review of rural camp report every committee presented their report on the general
body meeting. Review made by the HOD, Faculty Co-Coordinators and other
staffs in the department presented in the general body meeting.
Thus our rural camp end with joyful and also with many learnings of every
student.
Difficulties Faced
As a leader we have to communicate between the faculty co-ordinator and
students and sometimes we find difficult to communicate to every students
Make the students to work in their committees to actively take part
To make every students actively took part in cultures
Conclusion
Our Rural Camp VELICHAM 2012 helped to brighten outlives and also the
community. Rural Camp end with many sweet memories and also with many
learnings of every student in their role. As a leader I got many learnings in
Camp.
