Mandaue City

The City of Mandaue (Cebuano: Dakbayan sa Mandaue, Filipino: Lungsod ng Mandaue), is a city in
the province of Cebu in thePhilippines. It is one of the three urbanized cities on the island and forms a part of
the Cebu Metropolitan area. Mandaue City is located on the middle eastern coastal region of Cebu,
bordering to its right-side are Mactan Island where Lapu-Lapu City is located. Mandaue is connected to
Mactan Island via two bridges which includes the Mactan-Cebu Bridge and Marcelo Fernan Bridge And is
bounded south and the west by the Provincial Capital, Cebu City and north by Consolacion which is linked
with Cansaga Bay Bridge. The city has an area of 2,518 hectares (6,220 acres) with a total population of
331,320 people as of the 2010 census.
Mandaue City is part of the Sixth District of Cebu joined with the municipalities of Consolacion and Cordova.
Although qualified for a lone district since 1991, this was neglected by lawmakers. Mandaue is a highlyurbanized city but is administered with the supervision of the provincial government.

History
A community was established in Mandaue by a flourishing group of Austronesianpeople.
The Venetian chronicler Antonio Pigafetta wrote of a settlement called Mandaniwhich existed in the area with
a chieftain named Apo Noan then a few decades later another ruler named Lam Busan. Mandaue natives
were forced into a town as decreed by the Spanish authorities. This may have started off as a mission village
(which included present day Consolacion, Liloan and Poro) serving as a bulwark for the church in the
northern Cebu and was managed by the Jesuit in 1638 then a century later by the Recollects. The Philippine
revolution in 1898 gave the town a new form of administration in accordance with the organic decree of the
Central Revolutionary Government. The short-lived revolution was overthrown by the American Troops and a
battle nearly destroyed the town in 1901, killing Presidente Benito Ceniza.
Mandaue became independent from being an American Commonwealth and a Japanese Garrison on July 4,
1946 along with the entire nation. Mandaue became a chartered city on June 21, 1969 by Mayor Demetrio
Cortes Sr. The city was recognized as a HUC (Highly Urban City) on 1991.

Mandaue City: Emerging Convention City in Asia!

Where the Cebu International Convention Center is build is a very important historical landmark of Mandaue
City. Where this convention center sits is witness to Mandaue involvement in trade and international relations
even before its discovery of the west.
This was once a was a beautiful cove known to service the trading vessels from neighboring places before
the continent was known to be Asia. This cove was chosen by the western explorers to service the ships of
the Galleon trade and the Acapulco trade as a dry-docking facility.

This convention center serves as monument of this historical landmark, in recognition of Mandaues
involvement in the international stage since the beginning of history.
As venue of the 12th ASEAN summit, the city continues to play an important role in international relations,
becoming the core of development and strengthening its role as the growth engine of the province of Cebu.
The city management team, together with world renowned urban planner PALAFOX and ASSOCIATES
formulated a strategy to position the city as a preferred destination for international expositions and
conventions.
The development strategy will be anchored on the CEBU INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION CENTER
(CICC), the upcoming Export Mall and mixed-use development around it.
Its strategic location makes Mandaue City central to world-class amenities.
Just ten minutes away to five star resorts and tropical hideaways; five minutes to world class shopping; and
surrounded by the best lifestyle destinations of the metropolis.
The citys seaport can take one to the wonders of the islands and enjoy year-round festivals.
Across the bridge, an international airport can fly you to major destinations in Asia and the rest of the world.
These make Mandaue City the "Emerging Convention City in Asia!"
