Hand washing should be done immediately before and


after any manipulation of the catheter site or apparatus.
A proper size catheter (IUC) should be used to
minimize urethral trauma.
Insert urinary catheter only when necessary and
remove as soon as possible.
CAUTI is a common problem and virtually impossible
to prevent.
Catheter securement device reduce the incidence of
CAUTI.
Use of a 2-chamber drainage bag will cause CAUTI.

Perform bladder irrigation with antimicrobial


solution/iodine solution at least once daily.
Irrigation of the catheter and or bladder reduce CAUTI
incidence.
Routine care of the urethral meatus reduce CAUTI
incidence
Portable bladder ultrasounds used to assess urine
volume before catheterization
Collecting bag should be emptied regularly and kept
below the level of the bladder
Urinary drainage bags instilled with antiseptics or
