    RE: COMPENSATION CLAIM & COMPLAINT
    This letter serves as a formal compensation claim and complaint on unfair
    treatment by Gaborone Institute of Professional Studies (GIPS).
    I started working for GIPS College beginning of January 2012 at GIPS Kasane
    campus. On November, 19, 2013, GIPS sent us redeployment letters to
    Gaborone because they wanted to close the centre. Memo copy attached. They
    did not give us travel allowance and when we asked for the refund, no response
    was given cost of BWP2, 000.00. We were 5 who were affected. In January
    2014, I was appointed Head of Secretarial Department and City and Guilds
    Secretary but with no appointment letter hence they underpaid me. According
    to the memo of 26 February 2013, HOD allowance was supposed to be BWP2,
    500.00 but I was paid P1, 500.00, salary slip and memo attached. After my
    fellow Head of Department opened a case with the Labour Office and won the
    case, that is when they wrote me a contract that stated that I was to get BWP1,
    500.00 HOD allowance.
    In June 2015 our contracts expired and I was given a new contract and it is
    counter signed on September 16 2015 which stated that I was to commence
    work only on the 15th of January 2016 upon issuance of work permit. Verbal
    agreement was made that we share the cost of permits 50:50, to which I paid
    Immigration costs & Work permit cost (everything) with my own savings hoping
    to be re-imbursed as agreed.

    I wish to claim compensation BWP.. since I have been offered


    work at GIPS (Employment Contract still valid attached) and have Valid Work
    And Residence Permits yet they are not paying me because I should be at work
    as agreed that once the legal documents are present I can commence work but
    since January 2016 to November 2016 I have had no work or income and still
    wait in agony.
    When the Work Permit came out, I went to report on the 15th January 2016
    and I even clocked in and out on the biometric device used at GIPS to control
    attendance. On Monday January 18 I clocked in in the morning and was at
    work the whole day, only to be called by the then HR officer and be told that we
    should not come to work till further notice. I was called for interview so that I
    could teach Project 20000 students at Certificate Level. I attended the interview
    and the following week I went to meet the Director for the final interview. He
    told me that he would communicate through the Centre Manager. I never got
    the response until I went to ask. I was told there was no response yet. I kept
    going there on a monthly basis and was told the same answer.
    In May 2016, I went there and was told that they would call me after the new
    students recruitment. I kept waiting and was not called. I then went to seek
    advice at the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs, and went back to GIPS to
    have a clear picture on my work status. The Centre Manager, by the name of
    Mr.Jele, told me to get away and "go wherever I wanted to go". I went to see the
    Human Resources Manager and he wanted me to go meet the Director, but
    according to HR manager, the director said he was not willing to listen to me.
    Kindly assist in getting my dues from GIPS as they are unco-operative.
    I have Valid Employment Contract with GIPS (Business & Technical Services),
    Work and Residence Permits, BQA Accreditation Certificates attached.
