Dear Brandon Stanton or Editor of Humans of New York:
For our project, Humans of New York I have decided to expand our horizons buy introducing a
new aspect for our blog that is focused on interviewing college students around the country. For
this, I have developed a series of questions for an interview with a student at the University of
Arizona. His name is Humoud. Humoud is from Kuwait City. This is a country in Western Asia
that shares borders with Iraq and Saudi Arabia. Going into the interview, I knew I did not want to
ask many questions to my interviewee. Instead, I wanted to make the interview more of a
conversation. While conversing, the topic of sports was brought up by me, after I asked him what
his favorite sport was. After much discussion, I found out that this topic happened to be a
passion/hobby we both have in common. As a result, I decided to focus on the community of
sports through the eyes of Humoud.
Humouds favorite international soccer clubs are Manchester City, and Barcelona. He told me
that his favorite players from Manchester City were Sergio Agero, Raheem Sterling, and Yaya
Tour. From Spains team, Barcelona, his favorite player is of course the best soccer player in the
world Lionel Messi. We agreed on this since we are both great fans of the team. Humouds
community of sports is an ever-growing community, that only gains popularity as new
generations are born.
Kuwait is a very wealthy country in the Middle East, and like many countries around the world,
have fallen in love with the sport of soccer. Soccer is a very popular sport in Kuwait. Many
people who live there have created a passion for the sport. The country of Kuwait has created
The Kuwait Football Association (KFA) or the main governing body of any football team in
Kuwait. The mens national football team was able to gained popularity after competing in eight
AFC Asian Cup competitions, and after participating one time in the FIFA World Cup of 1982.
Basketball is another sport that has progressively gained popularity in Kuwait. This is due to
competing in the FIBA Asian Championship. Kuwait has become one of the most popular and
successful basketball nations in the entire middle east. The sports of cricket, rugby, and handball,
are progressive sports that are becoming more popular amongst the citizens of Kuwait.

I wanted to present a story where I could show that despite being from another country, we all
share a common interest within multiple worldwide topics. I wanted to make Humoud feel at
home, by showing him that we shared common interests such as sports. This way I am creating
an environment where he doesnt feel like an outcast but instead feels he is at home, away from
home.
