and read the days objectives.

REFLECTIONS

Instant Activity (music playing):. Read

the Get Goin on the white board.
Students will get a racket, and read the
Ipad to find their partner, look at the
board to see what net they are at and start
rallying back and forth.

Transition: When the whistle blows, students

will stand with their racket held to one side, and
the birdie in the other hand. Ms. Morris will ask
students to come sit at the white board with the
racket placed gently on the ground with the
birdies on the head. (students to not touch when
listening)

ORGANIZATION

Ms. Morris will inform the students that

today we will be focusing on practicing the
different types of hits we went over to use in
a game, and the rules of badminton.

Activity #1: Hitting Practice

- In this part of the lesson students will
practice the 3 different types of hits we
have talked about in past lessons and at
the beginning of the lesson.
- Types of Hits:
Clear- a good way to get yourself more organized
while youre under pressure. High and far hit to the
back of the opponents court.
Drop shot- performed at a steep angle lands on the
ground quicker, compared to the clear. Your
opponent has to rush forward to retrieve it.
Smash- The smash is one of the most powerful
badminton shots that is fired from a steep angle to
the ground of your opponent for a point.

Each student will have a partner who

will be helping them with each hit.
Partner 1 will be standing in a ready
position (knees bent, ready to move and
swing) with the racket. They will toss the
birdie high into the air and hit it based on
the hit they are practicing at the time.
P1 will perform the clear 5 times, and
switch with their partner, then do the
same with the drop shot and smash.
Partner 2 will have a check list of each
hit describing how it should be hit and
will watch their partner hit. Based on the
hit, P2 will mark the box that the partner
did correctly. What isnt checked off is
what the hitter needs to work on the next
time around.
After going through each hit 1 time,
students will check the list to see what
they need to work on and then go
through each hit 1 more time.
Students will need to be aware of other
people around them while swinging.
The checklist partner will need to move
out of the way of the hitter.
Because some classes are larger than
others, some students may need to

students to be able

criteria of each hit

teacher showed

practice hitting at a wall.

Teacher Roll: Ms. Morris will be
scanning and moving around the space
during the lesson. She will be assisting
students who need help with hitting
skills.

Activity #2: 5 minute Games changing

opponents
- In this activity students will be playing
real games using all of the rules and hits
learned.
- Every 5 minutes, Ms. Morris will blow
the whistle and each pair closest to the
fire escape doors will rotate to the next
court clockwise.
- Once everyone is at their new court, they
will start a new game.

Teacher Roll: Ms. Morris will be scanning and

moving around the space during the lesson. She
will be assisting students who need help with
skills such as serving, hitting and serving rules /
rotations.
Transition:
- When the whistle blows, students will
stand and listen.
- Students will put rackets into the bins
neatly, and put all birdies in the bucket
and then sit quietly in front of the white
board.

2 minuts
Closure:
- Ms. Morris will ask:
- What are different rules of badminton we
used in the games today?
- Describe different parts of the hits we
learned we needed to work on.
- Ms. Morris will reflect on how the lesson
went.
Transition:
Students will walk to the locker room and
change to leave.

Badminton Game Rules:

- Each match is played to a score of 21 points.
- Every time there is a serve there is a point scored.

- When the score is (0-0) or is even, the server serves

from the right. When the servers score is odd, the
server serves from the left.
- If the serving side wins a rally, the serving side scores a
point and the same server serves again from the other
serving side. (because the score changed)
- If the receiving side wins a rally, they score a point and
becomes the new serving side.
- If the birdie is hit, and lands on a boundary line, it is IN.
- You many only hit the birdie once per side of the court.
(you and your teammate can NOT both hit it in a row)
- When serving, it MUST be underhand.
- You Must serve to the area diagonal from where you are
serving, and it must land inside the receiving box.
