0 - Manual Page 7 of 185 Define Geology

The definition of geology is the first step of the four defined in the worksheet of the
planning module Minesched Production.
The Definition of Geology is where you enter the geological model with which the
planning will be done, which is later validated by displaying graphs of the data of your
model. The Geology Definition step consists of two parts:
1. The Models section is where you specify the file corresponding to the block model.
Minesched accepts models of the Surpac format (.mdl and .str), Datamine (.dm or
.dms), Minex Grid File (.b35 or .b35s).
2. The Validate section is where you validate the model load to the Minesched program.
This is done in a screen where the volumes, the accumulated tonnage, the average law
of each element and of each type of material are detailed through graphs.
Models
Within the Models section there are 5 tasks. Only two are mandatory tasks that should
be completed before proceeding with the section. The following are the tasks that exist
in the Models section:
1. Define the model
2. Define the classes of materials
3. Define qualities (optional)
4. Define user parameters (optional)
5. Define user calculations (optional)
The image below shows the Models section with a model specifying the types of
materials and their products.

Defining the model The first task is to define a model. In this part you can adhere to a
block model, a String model or a grid model and define some model parameters. There
are two ways Of adhering a model: Drag the model file from the Windows Explorer into
the Models.
The second option is to click on the Add button.
Yam
The model name is automatically entered with the same name as the file. You can
change the model name if you wish to call the model in Minesched otherwise.
File Name
This is a file finder, if you want to change the block model file without renaming the
block model entered in Minesched.
Material Class Attribute
Material classes are fundamental concepts for Minesched. Without the types of
materials there would be no difference between the mineral and the sterile. As for the
quantity of materials there is no restriction on Minesched. When you are planning from
block models, an attribute in your block model models the material classes. Simply this

attribute models mineral and sterile. You can model different types of ore as well as
sterile. In planning it is better to use more definitions of ore than to use a smaller
quantity. This is because with more materials you can make more combinations when
reporting the results of the planning. It is important to note that Minesched does not
determine material classes for you, these classes are defined by the user. The software
provides the flexibility to change the classes of materials assigned at any time in the
planning. Therefore, a product like Gemcom Whittle produces a planning with an
optimization of the cutting laws, these changes produced by the optimization of cutting
laws can be used in production planning.
Material classes must be created in your block model before planning. Selects the
attribute corresponding to the material classes from the list of attributes.
