Characteristics of the Renaissance
The renaissance lasted from 1300 to 1600. The renaissance was the time of rebirth for the
European civilization. During the renaissance they had many new successes. Many people
became well known for art, political thinking, and being an author. (History-world.org)
Art was a huge deal during the renaissance. The origin for renaissance art started in Italy.
Later on it ended up spreading to other countries like France, Northern Europe, and Spain.
Renaissance art lasted from the 15th to the 16th century. Towards the end some artist developed a
new type of art; which was oil painting. (History.com) There were many different artist during
this time. The two most famous artist were Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. Leonardo da
Vinci was born on April 15, 1452 and died on May 2, 1519. He was an artist in France. His two
most famous paintings are the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. Da Vinci was interested in
many different things. Some things that he was interested in were music, art, and science. He was
not only a painter. He was also a scientist and an inventor. (Biography.com) The second most
famous artist was Michelangelo. He was born on March 6, 1475 and died on February 18, 1564.
He was an artist in Italy. Michelangelo was a painter, a sculptor, and an architect. His most
famous sculptors are David and The Pieta. Also his most famous painting is the Sistine
Chapel. He also lived to see two biographies of his life published. (biography.com)
Another thing that people became well known for was political thinking. There were two
people who were most famous for political thinking and they are Niccolo Machiavelli and
Thomas more. Niccolo Machiavelli was born on May 3, 1469 and died on June 21, 1527. He
lived in Florence, Italy. Niccolo did many things during his life, He was a writer, Historian, and a

humanist. He created a different type of political science. It was based on humanist principles
and was called Humanism. Niccolo was an author. His most famous book he wrote was called
The Prince Another person who is well known for political thinking is Thomas More. He was
born on February 7. 1478 and died in 1535. He is a social philosopher and a humanist. Thomas
was also an author. His most famous book is called Utopia. (biography.com)
The final way people became well known was foe being an author. The most famous
author during the renaissance was William Shakespeare. He was born on April 23, 1564 and died
in 1616. He was an English writer and poet. In some of his pieces he brought the settings to life.
(study.com) Shakespeare wrote many things during his life time. Some of his most famous ones
he wrote include Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Macbeth, and Merchant of Venice.

Overall, the renaissance definitely lived up to what its name stands for. It allowed rebirth
and revival for Europeans. It let the put new ideas out there to show everyone. The main people
who put their work out there are the ones we know and learn about today. Which include the
artist Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, the political thinkers Niccolo Machiavelli and
