WELL COMPLETION
Equipment installed and procedures performed in oil or gas
wellbores to facilitate flowing fromproductionor pumping
intoinjectionsubsurface formations after drilling, running
steel casing and cementing the primary casing or liner in place.
Reservoir Completion:
Connection between reservoir and the well
Major decisions in the reservoir completion are
-Open hole versus cased hole
-Sand control requirement and type of sand control
-Single or multi-zone (commingled or selective)
Upper Completion
Conduit from reservoir completion to surface facilities
Major decisions in the upper completion are
-Articial lift and type (gas lift, electrical pump, etc.)
-Tubing size
-Single or dual completion
TYPE OF COMPLETIONS
DUAL COMPLETION
Single casing containing two production tubing strings, each in a different reservoir or a different zone of reservoir.
This can be for a number of reasons:
Incompatible uids or gases (e.g. scales)

Different pressure regimes severe cross-ow if the uid is commingled
Water coning
Simultaneously inject and produce
DUAL COMPLETION
Despite their obvious complexity, there are a

surprisingly large number of dual (and triple) completions
around the world and they are not a modern invention.

Packers
A sealing device that isolates and contains produced fluids
and pressures within the wellbore to protect the casing
and other formations above or below the producing zone.

A mid-string isolation packer that is

designed to seal off approximately two
strings of tubing.
The dual packer allows the simultaneous

production of two zones while keeping them
isolated.

The permanent packers, both wireline and

hydraulic set, afford much higher performance
in both temperature and pressure ratings than
do any of the retrievable packers.
The one disadvantage is that the permanent

packer must be milled over to remove the
packer from the wellbore.

Dual Tubing Wellhead & Christmas Tree is

used for extracting two oil reservoir at the
same time and also independently. It allow put
down two tubings into the same casing.

Dual Tubing hanger systems
A split tubing hanger for a well has two semi-cylindrical

tubing hanger bodies. A seal has a ring portion which
seals the tubing hanger bodies to the bore of a tubing
head.
The seal also has a diametrical band portion which joins

the ring portion. The band portion seals between the two
tubing hanger bodies.

This device permits communication between tubing and

annulus.
Using wireline or coiled tubing, the inner sleeve can be moved

upwards or downwards to align the openings on both sleeves.
Its application is for well killing and placement of fluids in the

tubing or annulus by circulation.

Once flow from any one of the reservoirs slow down

or become irregular, the production is converted to
gas lifted production.
DUAL COMPLETION
Advantages
Production rate from each zone can be independently
control
Changes in production characteristics of one zone will not
affect other zone
Stimulation can be applied to each zone
Disadvantages
Since each zone needs a tubing string and other completion
equipment, additional expenditure and installation time is
needed
The possibility of component failure is increased with the
amount of completion equipment.
Using of two small tubing sizes to fit in production casing
string may reduce total flow capacity of the well
