Some of the key takeaways from the document are that Cloud RAN aims to centralize baseband processing to reduce costs and improve coordination between cells. However, there are still technical and implementation challenges that need to be addressed before wide adoption.

Some of the challenges of implementing Cloud RAN mentioned include the high cost of deploying new fiber if operators don't have abundant optical fibers available already. There are also current limitations in technology and applications that need to be overcome.

Three scenarios are discussed for deploying Cloud BB: a scenario covering around 10 sites within 5-10 sq km, a scenario covering more than 10 sites over 10 sq km, and a scalable scenario for up to 200 BBUs. These have different benefits like capacity increases, equipment room savings, and scalability.

Background

Cloud Computing has become a hot topic on the Internet

for IT industrial magnates such as Microsoft and Google.
As a result, they are boosting their data services and
tailored applications.

Wireless networks today need to supply not only voice

services, email, Video, Gaming and GPS, but also future
oriented service extensions. The number of voice users
and mobile broadband users will significantly increase
due to the HSPA Evolution and LTE/-A technologies. To
meet this trend, mobile operators must pay full attention
to future development strategies and ways to save on
Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).

Summary

Because the wireless network performance benefit will come from BB pool
solution for LTE-A, and cloud computing BB pool is far from commercial
application, the proper time for ultimate Cloud-RAN may be LTE volume
construction

From the current Technology and Application limitation, the Mother-Child Sites
deployment is the best one of Cloud RAN scenarios for improving capacity
based on interference control
