Storage: Hygroscopic. Keep container tightly closed. Keep container in a cool, well-ventilated area.

Section 8: Exposure Controls/Personal Protection

Engineering Controls:
Use process enclosures, local exhaust ventilation, or other engineering controls to keep airborne levels below recommended
exposure limits. If user operations generate dust, fume or mist, use ventilation to keep exposure to airborne contaminants
below the exposure limit.
Personal Protection:
Splash goggles. Lab coat. Dust respirator. Be sure to use an approved/certified respirator or equivalent. Gloves.
Personal Protection in Case of a Large Spill:
Splash goggles. Full suit. Dust respirator. Boots. Gloves. A self contained breathing apparatus should be used to avoid

Routes of Entry: Inhalation. Ingestion.

Toxicity to Animals:
LD50: Not available. LC50: Not available.
Chronic Effects on Humans:
MUTAGENIC EFFECTS: Mutagenic for bacteria and/or yeast. May cause damage to the following organs: kidneys, the
nervous system, central nervous system (CNS).
Other Toxic Effects on Humans: Hazardous in case of skin contact (irritant), of ingestion, of inhalation (lung irritant).
Special Remarks on Toxicity to Animals: Not available.
Special Remarks on Chronic Effects on Humans:
May affect genetic material. Lithium passes through the placental barrier in human. Lithium is excreted in maternal milk in
human. Lithium and its compounds are possible teratogens. However, the major role of lithium and lithium compounds in
producing human birth defects is not universally accepted. To the best of our knowledge, the toxicological properties of this
compound have not been fully investigated.
Special Remarks on other Toxic Effects on Humans:
Acute Potential Health Effects: The Acute toxicity of lithium salts is difficult to assess. Reports of toxic responses in workers
are rare. The occurence of toxicity is related to plasma concentration of lithium. Skin: May cause skin irritation. Eyes:
May cause eye irritation. Inhalaiton: May cause respiratory tract and mucous membrane irritation. Ingestion: May cause
gastrointestinal tract irritation with nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dehydration, and salivation. It may also affect
behavior/central nervous system. Some effects of acute mild overexposure may include: impaired concentration, irritability,
lethargy, muscle weakness; effects of moderate overexposure may include: mental confusion, disorientation, drowsiness;
effects of severe overexposure may include convulsions and coma. Other symptoms of overexposure may include anxiety,
spasticity, delirium, stupor, ataxia, sedation, fine and gross tremor, giddiness, blurred vision, twitching, slurred speech, and
apathy. Acute severe overexposure may also affect the kidneys (renal dysfunction, albuminuria, oliguria, and degenerative
changes), cardiovascular system(cardiac arrhythmias, hypotension), and Chronic Potential Health Effects: Most poisonings
are caused by chronic exposure. Skin: May cause variouis types of dermatitis including psoriasis, alopecia, cutaneous ulcers,
acne, follicular papules, xerosis cutis, exfoliate dermatitis. Ingestion: Proglonged or repeated ingestion may affect metabolism
(anorexia, weight loss, emaciation), kidneys, and behavior/central nervous system (symptoms similar to acute exposure), and
peripherial nervous system.. To the best of our knowledge, the toxicological properties of this substance have not been fully
investigated.

Section 12: Ecological Information
