HOW TO CAS
1 CREATIVITY ACTIVITY SERVICE
CAS - the only part of IB that doesnt contribute towards your 45 points, but can snatch
away your diploma if not adequately fulfilled. You will have to engage in CAS experiences
actively for 18 months at least - do not take it lightly or leave it off for the last moment! IBO
randomly selects samples and even a single person's work can affect everyone else's.
Doing community service kills 2 birds with 1 stone - your CAS portfolio fills up and you
impress your universities later on.

FILLING IN CAS FORMS
THE PROPOSAL FORM
Why is this either creativity, activity or service?

How are you planning out this event? How are the
teams organised and how is the work delegated?

What is your role in the event, and what do you/does

your team have to prepare for the event? E.g.
preparing posters OR handling finances (be specific)

How are you planning to carry out the plan of action,

and handle the event on the final day? What will you
be doing, and what are your responsibilities?

If you cannot locate the list (usually on the second

page of the supervisor forms) we'll be happy to share
it with you!

These spaces provide you with the chance to talk

about the impact you will make on your community,
and how you will develop as a person.

THE SUPERVISOR
EVALUATION
Give an overview - summarize things such as details
of the event, your role and responsibilities and
learning objectives met (from the given list).

Ask your supervisor (a teacher for school events; your

leader/team head/person in-charge for outside school
events) to tick the appropriate boxes for this table.

Another section for your supervisor to fill - give them

the reference of the learning objectives and ask them
to write a few comments on your performance.

EXTERNAL CAS EXPERIENCES. TRUST ME, IT'LL
BE A PAIN TO CHASE AFTER TWENTY
DIFFERENT PEOPLE IN THE LONG RUN.
SELF INITIATED PROJECTS
The self-initiated project is a long-term, well-organised event that
requires detailed planning and lots of dedication. The idea needs to
be original, and you get to work with people you bond well with. This
is a compulsory requirement of the IBDP's CAS component, and
should definitely be completed in the first year of IB.

PLAN AHEAD - DON'T LEAVE IT TO THE

LAST MINUTE. USE YOUR
COMPARATIVELY FREE FIRST YEAR TO
ORGANISE AND EXECUTE IT.

When filling up forms for a self-initiated, make sure to elaborate as

much as possible, so that you can properly log your organisation
process. These events are often painful to pull off, but they're always
much better when you're working for a cause that you really care
about - CAS gives you this liberty so it's to your best advantage to
make the most of it.

GENERAL CAS TIPS
DON'T PUSH IT OFF AS IRRELEVANT

1 As you gain more CAS experience, complete their proposal forms at least, the rest should be completed after
youre done with the activity. This is the bare minimum. Were all presidents of the procrastination, but filling
out CAS forms WILL become a chore if you leave it to the last minute.

EXTERNAL EVENTS

2 For events that you participate in outside school print out your supervisor
evaluation forms - returning to that place, especially if its in another country, is
going to prove a difficult task.

COMPLETE YOUR SELF-INITIATED IN THE FIRST YEAR

3 The best part of these is that you get to work with your
friends to plan a project of your choice, for a cause that
you care about.

IN FACT, COMPLETE AS MUCH WORK IN YOUR FIRST YEAR AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE

4 Do not ignore this. This is very important. Seriously. You will be swamped with work in
Year 2 and won't find the time to complete pending reflections or go hunting for CAS
opportunities.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME

5 Yes, CAS reflections should look pretty and perfect, but its more
important that you finish all of them decently, than complete only a few in
the span of half a year.

DON'T BE LAZY

6 At the same time, this doesnt mean that you dont put in effort into your
reflections. - Canva is the easiest way to make drab paragraphs look
considerably easy on the eyes.

YOUR REFLECTIONS CAN HELP YOU WITH YOUR UNIVERSITY APPLICATIONS

7 Reflect well, because youre going to have a much easier time

drafting your essays and resumes if you do so.

MARK YOUR DATES

8 Were currently in the beginning weeks of our second year and, unfortunately, are still picking our brains
for the dates of events and stints because we didnt follow this simple rule. This is important for filling in
forms and writing reflections. Make sure to keep track of upcoming events also.

BALANCE OUT YOUR EXPERIENCES

9 Have a portfolio that covers all grounds. Although it is important that you have a few main
extracurriculars, the DP requires you to be actively participating in events of all kinds. If you dont enjoy
them, swallow it like medicine and suck it up - find something to enjoy in the activities you are doing.

DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE IMPORTANCE OF CAS

10 We mean this, and so does the IB. If you consider CAS a joke right from the very start, its going to be
immensely difficult to pull yourself out of that situation.
