4 Installation

4.1 General Notes on Installation

Note
Depending on the configuration of your operating system you require administrator
rights for installation.

If you are using Windows Vista, we recommend to not install DIGSI into the root
directory of a drive.
If you are using Windows Vista and the full version of Step7 V5.4, we recommend
to install DIGSI into the directory suggested during installation.
If you are using Windows Vista with a Chinese language option, we recommend to
install DIGSI into the directory suggested during installation (if necessary on
another drive).

You cannot install DIGSI 4.83 over an existing DIGSI 4 installation. In this case, the
old DIGSI 4 version must first be deinstalled using the deinstallation program (see
below). Important: Following deinstallation, the computer must always be rebooted!
For optimum display of the information during setup, you should set the colors in
the control panel of your computer to at least 65536 colors.
Before starting the setup program, please close all applications (such as MS Word,
etc.) and the control panel window, since you have to restart your computer
following the DIGSI installation so that all the system variables can be entered
completely.

Note
If you want to use STEP7 and/or SICAM on the target computer, you have to install
these software packages before installing DIGSI.

Insert the DIGSI 4 DVD called "Program and Device Drivers" in the drive. The
DIGSI setup program will guide you through the installation. The installation
program starts automatically after inserting the DIGSI 4 DVD. If you have disabled
this function on your computer, start the setup program with the MS Windows
Explorer by double-clicking on the SETUP.EXE in the root directory.
If you want to change the default installation path of the DIGSI 4 setup, make sure
that you do not install directly to the root directory (e.g. D:) of your computer. You
should maintain at least one subdirectory such as "DIGSI4", D:\DIGSI4, for
example.
The installation of the selected components starts.
Some notes on what is required during setup:
• You can select any drive you want to install DIGSI 4 on. Sufficient hard-disk
space (see chapter memory requirements) must be available.
• Do not install DIGSI 4 in a directory whose path contains non-ASCII characters
(see chapter "Notes on the usage of foreign language character sets").

Follow the on-screen instructions of the set-up program:

• In a selection menu you can now select whether you want to carry out a full
installation (initial installation) or only a partial installation (option packages,
later installation of device drivers). You always require the serial number
indicated on the product card provided. As an alternative, you can enter "Trial"
to use DIGSI together with all option packages for up to 30 days for free.
• You find the manuals and device drivers on the same DVD from which you
perform the installation of DIGSI 4.83. Another DVD includes the bonus
material.

DIGSI 4 ReadMe.rtf
Edition 10/2009 13
6 New features and Changes Compared to
Earlier Versions

6.1 New in DIGSI 4.83

General Information
1. The product now supports Windows XP SP 3.

2. The product now also supports virtual environment

(VM software by VMWare can be found at
www.vmware.com). The following operating systems
are supported in the VM: Windows XP Professional
with SP3, Windows Vista Business and Ultimate (both
with SP1).

Extensions and New Features in DIGSI 4

3. The current STEP7 OEM version (incl. CFC and
Netpro) is supported: Step7 5.4 SP4.

4. The following extensions have been provided for the

interchange format at the DIGSI XML interface for data
import and export:

a. Export and import of long texts in DIGSI XML

for external use or modification.

b. Flexible import and export of parameter

groups; only one settings group is exported in
case of disabled settings group switching. All
parameters of the given settings groups are
given back during import so that a partial
update is required.

c. The export of SIPROTEC V3 setting values

and routing information is possible now.

d. Export and import of IEC 60870-103

addresses of measured values of a
SIPROTEC device

5. If the operating language of DIGSI 4 is set to Russian,

you can perform an automatic transliteration to Cyrillic
texts.

6. Now you can export CFC charts as structured text files

(ST) for use in other systems and external evaluation.

7. DIGSI 4 now also supports the modem connection

under Windows Vista.

8. DIGSI 4 now also prints the topological SIPROTEC 3

addresses.

Extensions and New Features in the IEC 61850 System

Configurator
9. The system configurator now completely supports the
use of international character sets (Unicode) for
descriptions such as Russian or Chinese; it is also
possible to read the descriptions from SCD files and
save them there.

10. Up to now, the AppID value range for IEC61850 has

been limited from 0 to 63. There is no limitation with
the new DIGSI 4 version. The entire value range can
be used as specified by standard. The expert mode in
the system configurator provides this setting.

11. MAC addresses, used in IEC 61850 for identification

of GOOSE messages and reports, have been
assigned automatically up to. Now you can assign
them manually so that segmentation of the network via
filtering of MAC addresses is possible, leading to a
reduction of the network load in case of a large
number of GOOSE messages. The expert mode in the
system configurator provides this setting.

12. Now you can also assign the GOOSE ID manually.

The GOOSE ID is part of each GOOSE Telegram. For
interoperability scenarios where GOOSE telegrams
are transferred between devices of different
manufacturers it is important, that if another device
evaluates this ID, this can be adapted on the side of
the transmitter in the SIPROTEC 4 device. You find
this attitude in the system configurator in the expert
mode. For GOOSE-Telegrams which are exchanged
between SIPROTEC 4 devices, this ID does not have
a meaning and can remain unchanged.

13. A single device can now also be exported in the format

CID. The CID file contains all IEC 61850 relevant data
of a device, including the communication description to
a client (static reports) and its GOOSE connections to
another devices. It does not contain the settings of a
device. Some system configuration tools from other
manufacturers cannot handle big SCD files and the
derive from it the relevant IEC 61850 data of a device.
The CID file takes remedial action here by extracting
relevant IEC 61850 data of a device from the SCD file

DIGSI 4 ReadMe.rtf
Edition 10/2009 15
and offering it in a simply manageable file for
configuration tools of other manufacturers. An import
of ICD files is not provided by DIGSI and is not
needed.
6.2 Fault corrections
The following fault was eliminated:
ERR_36253
A parallel use of static and dynamic reports in the IEC 61850 was not possible in DIGSI 4.82
without manual corrections. A newly established parameter in the system configurator
permits the choice whether dynamic reports are also needed or whether an automatic
optimization using purely static reports can take place.

ERR_37804
At the online change of settings, DIGSI 4 has an extended mechanism. This mechanism
recognizes now also for special cases the differences to the offline data storage and offers a
synchronization.

ERR_37151
The USB/RS232 converter is recommended for the connection of the SIPROTEC 4 devices to
PCs without a serial interface. It does not work under MS Windows Vista.

ERR_36329
After upgrading the device driver of a SIPROTEC 4 device and adding an EN100
communication module later, the IED name of the device was empty and not alterable. The
IED name of the SIPROTEC 4 device remains unchanged after the upgrade now and is
furthermore alterable.

ERR_35283
An improved version of the Russian online help of the CFC blocks is available now.

ERR_37997
In some situations, the maximum number of cycle counters supported by the SIPROTEC device
could not be used. It is possible now to use all available cycle counters.

ERR_38848
Problems occurred in the interplay with USB drivers of other manufacturers. These problems
prevented a communication with the SIPROTEC devices connected over USB cables. A
stable connection is possible now, if USB drivers of other manufacturers exist.

ERR_36367
A fault prevented the correct operation of "Check switching authority at Remote commands” on
IEC 61850 systems. The execution of this function is possible now without problems.

DIGSI 4 ReadMe.rtf
Edition 10/2009 17
ERR_37259
The behavior of the system while changing the online and offline parameter set at the same
time has been improved.

ERR_36175
The compatibility during the import of ICD and SCD files of other manufacturers has been
improved.

ERR_39856
The performance during the creation of reports in the System configurator (IEC 61850) has
been improved significantly.

ERR 35264
The sporadic system failures during settings block comparison have been corrected.

ERR_35350
It is now possible to add user-defined information to newly created groups in the Excel Addln.

ERR_35608
From now on, you can also install DIGSI 4 on the operating system variants MS Windows Vista
Enterprise and Home Premium.

ERR35640
From now on, you can use the front or rear interface of the 7SS522 central unit without
restrictions to communicate between the central unit and the bay units 7SS523/7SS525
under DIGSI 4.

ERR_39448
System visualization of the 7SS522 central unit now also displays the current measured values
of the check zone.
6.3 Known Problems
1. ERR_36367: The check box “remote commands (system interface DIGSI)“ is
without function.
Situation:
Up from EN100 module firmware version V4.0 the check box “remote
commands (system interface DIGSI)“ is without function. Regardless of whether
the check box is activated or deactivated the function “remote commands” is
always active in the device.
Caution:
In DIGSI V4.83 the check box “remote commands (system interface DIGSI)“ is
disabled for the user. The check box may be activated or deactivated which
depends on its previous usage, but this has no effect on the by default activated
function of remote commands in the device (up from EN100 V4.0).

2. Changing the Operating Language: No Effect on the CFC Border

Situation:

You can change the operating language of the DIGSI 4 Manager any time.
Caution:

If the operating language is changed, the standard device texts in the edge bars
of a CFC chart remain in the language originally set. You can only obtain these
texts in the desired language when you delete and then restore every
connection to the edge bar.

3. Operation by several DIGSI users at the same time (No. 911)

Situation:

It is possible to operate a device via the front or the rear interface. Even for bus
users (PROFIBUS FMS, ETHERNET), concurrent access by several users is
possible.
Caution:

For the moment, no priority can be applied to communication channels. Access

via one connection may disturb the concurrent communication for another
connection (changing the baud rate, transfer of parameters).

4. Inserting a Device: "Server is busy"

Situation:

Devices are managed in the DIGSI 4 Manager. They can be selected from the

DIGSI 4 ReadMe.rtf
Edition 10/2009 19
device catalogue and inserted in a project.
Caution:

When inserting a device with a large range of functions (e.g. 7SJ63...), the
message "Server is at full capacity" may appear. This message is meaningless:
The device will still be inserted correctly.
5. Hierarchical CFC Charts Cannot Be Used

Situation:

With the new version, the ability to save modules and their circuitry in a new
macro module (hierarchical charts) is offered in the CFC option package.
Caution:

At present, such blocks cannot be used in different charts.

6. Supposedly Missing Projects (No. 13232)

Situation:

You have installed and started the new version, and now you want to open a
project edited previously.
Caution:

Projects which have just been created, are initially not visible.
Select "Open" and then the button "Search..." .
In the next dialogue you mark the desired projects and confirm them with "OK".

7. DIGSI 4 Manager does not react

Situation:

An existing modem connection is interrupted (e.g. by disconnecting the cable

from the PC modem).
Caution:

The DIGSI 4 Manager then no longer reacts, as the modem connection is not
re-established. Close the so-called ComTask (icon in system area of the
Windows taskbar).

8. No Comments during Export/Import (No. SE.144.3944.1)

Situation:

A device is exported and then reimported.

Caution:

All comments get lost during this procedure.

DIGSI 4 ReadMe.rtf
Edition 10/2009 21
9. No PROFIBUS-FMS connections

Situation:

In the COM-PROFIBUS configuration, a connection for SICAM RECPRO is

configured.
Caution:

The DIGSI-PROFIBUS-FMS connections then no longer work. In the COM-

PROFIBUS configuration for the CP, VFD 2 must be used for RECPRO. For
connections from SIPROTEC devices, the VFD 1 is to be used when available
(otherwise 3).

10. Comparison of devices with user-defined information

Situation:

Although it appears to the user that configurations are identical, differences may
be displayed when con-figuring user-defined information during the comparison.
Caution:

The reason for this is that this information has been inserted in the matrix in a
different order.

11. Icons of the busbar protection system editor can be copied

Situation:

The user-defined icon libraries of the system configuration cannot be exported

within the editor from one computer to another computer.
Caution:

Copy the user-defined libraries directly in the file system using the MS Explorer.
User-defined dynamic icons are located in the directory
...Digsi4\SSLib\SSData\dyndin
User-defined static icons are located in the directory
...Digsi4\SSLib\SSData\stauser.
12. Incomprehensible error messages for modem communication (No.438)

Situation:

Working with a modem communication, incomprehensible error messages (and

numbers) may occur. These messages are generated by a windows component
(TAPI) used in DIGSI.
The following error codes are known:

0x80000005

The call could not be executed due to a busy line or a missing dialing tone, for
example.

0x80000048

Local modem not found due to a busy interface, for example.

0x8000004B

If this error occurs while initializing a modem, you have to send a reset
command (AT&F or ATZ, depending on the modem type) to the modem. This
error may also occur if the interface is busy while attempting to initialize a
modem.

0x80000022

An invalid character was entered in the phone book: For example, a letter or an
invalid country code.

13. No measured value update for PROFIBUS FMS (No.391, 10566, 10614,
13052)

Situation:

If windows for measured values are open for a longer time (1 hour) the values
may not be updated. DIGSI device editor may crash. This error applies for
PROFIBUS FMS connections only.
Caution:

If DIGSI crashes, you have to close the task in the task line.

DIGSI 4 ReadMe.rtf
Edition 10/2009 23
14. Upgrading a SIPTROTEC device to IEC61850 (No.1877)

Situation:

Devices with firmware version 4.50 may be upgraded for IEC61850

communication via the installation of a communication module. This requires a
firmware and a parameter set upgrade.
Caution:

When the firmware is upgraded and the communication module is installed,

proceed as follows:
- Upgrade the parameter set (use the function provided in DIGSI manager)
- Register the communication module via the property pages of the device
(tab "Communication modules").
Now, you can use the device as IEC61850 communicator.

15. Error during import of variables in WinCC (No. SE.144.13535.1)

Situation:

Variables that only differ in special characters or capital/small letters, cannot be
