The Big Bang Theory postulates that the universe began approximately 13.8 billion years ago from a rapid expansion. Our solar system formed 4.6 billion years ago from a gas and dust cloud and is located in the Milky Way galaxy. It consists of the Sun and objects that orbit it, including planets, asteroids, comets, and moons. Earth is a unique planet in our solar system that is able to support life due to factors like its atmosphere, liquid water on its surface, and the moderating effect of the Moon.
