1. ACTIVITY 1: Watch the Introduction to Impressionism video and complete the following as a class.
A. Highlight the key terms as we read this definition out as a class.

Definition of Impressionism: A 19th-century art movement, associated especially with French artists, whose works are characterized by relatively small,
thin, visible brushstrokes that combine to form a single scene and emphasize movement and the changing qualities of light. An ti-academic in its formal
aspects, Impressionism also involved the establishment of independent exhibitions outside of the established and official ven ues of the day.

B. How did the Impressionist movement start? Fill in the blanks as we watch the video. Dont worry if you miss some we will go through it as a class as well.

The term Impressionist was first used as an insult. The term Impressionism comes from a scathing critique by ____________. Which

eventually then demanded to be able to judge the rejected work for themselves. In response to this public outcry Emperor Napoleon the
