THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

“Once you have glimpsed the world as it might be, as it ought to

be, as it’s going to be (however that vision appears to you), it is
impossible to live compliant and complacent anymore in the
worlds as it is.” ~ Victoria Safford

ADVENT CANDLE LIGHTING

This season, our Trinity Advent candles are lit by people
representing various Trinity outreach efforts.
Today’s “Joy” candle is lit representing the JOY Band, the
Joyful Bells, our Junior and Senior Choirs.
God delights us with wonder and blessing, new every morning.
God brings smiles to our faces, songs to our hearts, joy to
our sleepy souls!
Let there be laughter and delight wherever the Holy Spirit lives.
Let our candle of joy reflect this desire:
May there be joy in our hearts, joy in our communities, joy
in our world! (Our first three candles are lit)

♫JUNIOR CHOIR: “Ode to Joy” solo: Corin Standing

Prayer of Confession:
God of comfort and God of challenge-
May we be open both to familiar warmth, and to new
transformations.
May we seek in you a deeper joy than simple fleeting
happiness.
May that Joy both sustain us, and change us...
(A moment of silence for personal confession)
Friends and companions of Mary, Joseph, and the child Jesus-
Prepare to hear the old old story. Properly heard, this story will
warm your heart with joy,
And that joy will start a fire in the world! Amen.

LESSONS & CAROLS CANDLELIT SERVICE

A quiet evening of contemplative music & readings of the
Christmas journey by St. Andrew’s United Church Choir.
Sunday December 18th at 7:30pm at St. Andrew’s United
Church

THE LONGEST NIGHT SERVICE

The Advent and Christmas seasons can inspire profound highs
and lows in our lives. On Wednesday Dec. 21st at 7pm,
members of Trinity United, along with friends from St. Andrew’s
United, will gather for a service of heartfelt string music and
candlelit prayer in the Trinity sanctuary. It’s an opportunity for a
spacious pause, to contemplate the hopes, fears, and prayers
that fill that longest night of the year.

TRINITY’S CHRISTMAS BAG OUTREACH PROJECT: Each

year the youth group collect items for Trinity’s Christmas Bag
Outreach Project. Last year we provided over 150 Christmas
gifts to children, youth and adults in our community! If you
would like to contribute to this project please see the list outside
the Office or contact Lisa Blais. Thank-you for supporting this
important ministry!

ADVENT OFFERING PILL BOTTLE BANKS will be distributed

today-please pick one up at the back of the Church.
This time of year we all receive numerous solicitations to help
fund worthy projects. For as long as our "old timers" can
remember, Trinity has offered another opportunity for your
consideration through our Advent Offering. This is a once a
year project that will go on for four weeks only. Our two projects
this year will be: SLEEPING CHILDREN AROUND THE
WORLD (SCAW) and PACKSAC SMILES. We use PILL
BOTTLE BANKS to collect for Advent. We suggest you place it
on your meal table and each day put a coin in it at grace time.
8
Explain to your children what it is for. Before the end of the year
bring in your offerings. Cheques and folding money also fit
nicely in the banks. Be sure to take one home this Advent.

Hope2Kenya’s Tree of Hope is once again waiting to be lit.

Cost to turn on a light is $5.00. Take a reminder from the tree
to put on your own tree, that you have helped a child in Kenya.
The funds raised from this initiative will go to a small school
near a slum in Kitale, Kenya. The school is called Pazuri
School (A Good Place To Be). Because of this school, children
from the area now have a chance at an education. By helping
you are bringing light and hope to children at this school.

FOOD SHELF ITEM OF THE MONTH – Trinity’s Food Shelf

continues to provide food and supplies to those in need in our
community. While you are shopping if you could buy an extra
item, it would be appreciated. Thanks!
FOOD SHELF VOLUNTEERS: A preliminary schedule for 2017
has been posted on the cupboard. If you need any changes
please call Jim at 495-4546

THE NOMINATIONS COMMITTEE

As Christmas is fast approaching, we start to get busy and
sometimes we get caught up in all the excitement. When that
happens, we can forget about all the different ministries that
Trinity offers. Being part of a committee is very rewarding, and
a fantastic learning experience. It not only helps you grow in
faith, but helps others also. You are able to share ideas, talents,
abilities, and fellowship. At this time of year, I would encourage
you to prayerfully ask God where you can help and what you
can do to spread His message. He will guide you to where He
wants you to be. If you have any questions: contact Roxanne
Chartrand, Ed Rose, Claudette dePencier, or Moe Laporte. We
also need of a vice-chair. On behalf of the nominating
committee, we wish each and everyone of you a blessed
Christmas.
