Present Perfect is used to express


a. activities that occurred or were repeated several times at some
unspecified time in the past or
b. activities (with for or since) that began in the past and continue in the
present.
c. NEVER use present perfect with sentences containing time clauses
with when, before, after, or as soon as.

PART I: In the following sentences write either the simple past or the
present perfect of the verb in parentheses.

1. I (VISIT) have visited Chicago many times.

2. John (GO) went to Chicago three days ago.

3. When I (SEE) saw Joe, he didn’t feel very well.

4. We (BUY) bought this car last year, and

we

(DRIVE) have driven 15,000 miles since then.

5. My former teacher was Ms. Smith. I (STUDY) have studied


with her for one year.

6. My current teacher is Mr. Cook. I (STUDY) have studied with


him since last semester.

and again, but I still think the food is terrible.
