UPDATE ON AQUA VA RATE CASE: The State Corporation Commission (SCC) hearing examiner submitted a report on the Aqua
VA rate increase request to the Commissioners on Sept. 7. The report includes a recommended increase of 41% for sewer rates and
18% for water rates.
According to an SCC spokesman, the report from the examiner is simply a recommendation that the Commissioners may accept,
modify or reject. Commissioners will review the entire case record before making a final ruling; no date has been set. No further public
comments will be accepted on the case.
The 27-page report can be seen on the SCC website at http://docket.scc.virginia.gov/vaprod/main.asp. Click on Search Cases,
then enter case # PUE 2009-00059.
POLICE CHIEF TOM BOISVERT COMMENTS ABOUT RECENT THEFTS FROM PARKED VEHICLES: “During the early morning
hours of August 31, unknown person(s) entered and stole items from 16 unlocked vehicles parked in 12 residential property driveways.
Items taken were GPS units, a car stereo, softball equipment, I-pods, a Nintendo game unit and small amounts of cash.
“The Lake Monticello Police are actively working the case and request that anyone with information regarding these thefts call 589-
3215. We also recommend that in a community of this size, all persons lock their vehicles and residences to reduce the opportunity for
crimes like this to be successful.”
THANKS TO ALL LAKE MONTICELLO POOL PATRONS THIS YEAR: We hope you enjoyed fun in the sun at the pool, and look
forward to another great year in 2011.

A LOOK AHEAD AT THE LAKE DREDGING PROGRAM, September 7 thru October 2010: from Program Manager Rich Barringer:
“In an attempt to keep the community updated on the progress and location of the LMOA Long-Term Maintenance Dredging Program,
LMOA President Scott Meiss has requested we provide a bi-monthly update, of which this is the first.
“Our first year of dredging was highly successful. On July 20, we began the second year of the lake health dredging program, as
scheduled, in Jackson Cove. We cleaned the upper cove region (headwaters, where the stream enters the cove), which was previously
dredged; cleaned our BMP (best management practice, a trench that will keep silt from migrating into the main part of the lake) that
was created last year; and expanded the overall dredged area of the cove. The headwaters had a buildup of sediment from runoff, and
we were able to remove it before it moved to the deeper regions of the lake. On Sept. 7, we relocated the operation to Monroe Cove,
where initially we will be working in the area on the lake side of the underwater utilities pipe and progressing over the pipe within a
couple of weeks. We should be in Monroe until mid-October. Adams Cove follows in the rotation.
“Homeowner dredging will begin with Section 3, after we leave Monroe Cove. We have the current list of potential customers and
will contact them to make arrangements for the dredging. If you are already on the list and have changed your contact information or if
you want to be added to the list please contact the Environmental Control Office at 591-0196.”
A discussion on dredging is being shown on cable channel 10 at 9AM and 7PM through Sept. 15. For further information about the
dredging program, call Rich at (434) 806-9258.
LMOA’S FACEBOOK IS DOWN: For reasons we have been unable to determine, LMOA’s Facebook page was disabled last
weekend. We are in the process of establishing a new page and will keep you informed when it is up and running. Our apologies to
fans for any inconvenience.
AD HOC COMMITTEE ON DEER CONTROL (by lethal means) will meet on Wed., Sept. 15, at 7PM in the Faulconer Room. Guests
will be representatives of the Central Virginia Urban Bow Hunters Association. All welcome. Time will be allotted for member
comments.
IF YOU WANT TO KEEP OUR LAKE HEALTHY, WE NEED YOUR HELP: The Lake Health Education Group will meet on Wed.,
Sept. 15, to kick off its new year of informing and educating Lake Monticello residents about how they can help keep our lake healthy.
The meeting will be held from 12:30PM to 2:30PM in the Terrace Game Room. (Feel free to bring a bag lunch.) The Group will be
working on plans for projects and activities for the coming year and is eagerly looking for ideas and new members who want to join this
important effort. Please join us or call co-chairs Mickey Meyer at 589-5445 or Sonita Brown at 591-1031 for more information.
PUBLIC HEARING ON LAND ACROSS FROM MAIN GATE: The Fluvanna Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on
Wed., Sept. 22, at 7PM in the County Courts Building on a request by Southern Development to amend two proffers associated with
the 44.217 acres across from the Main Gate on Rt. 618. A “neighborhood meeting” was held on this matter on Aug. 11. For more
information about the hearing and the developer’s request, contact the Planning Office at 591-1910.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: There will be no Fall Cleanup this year. Due to the cost for snow removal last winter, the Improved
Property Fund that normally covers the cost of the dumpsters has been depleted. Therefore, no dumpsters will be available for disposal
of items too large for regular trash pickup this fall.

FEEDING DEER IS ILLEGAL IN VIRGINIA, effective Sept. 1 through Jan. 1. According to the VA Game & Inland Fisheries, “the ban
is intended to curb the negative consequences of feeding deer, such as unnaturally increasing population numbers that can lead to
damage to natural habitats, disease transmission and human-deer conflicts, including vehicle collisions with large animals.”
FEEDING DEER IS PROHIBITED AT ALL TIMES AT LAKE MONTICELLO: The ban on feeding deer at any time was adopted by
the Board to protect the community and the deer. Please comply with this environmentally responsible policy.
