To Calibrate Bourdon Tube Pressure Gauge

Objectives
 To Calibrate Bourdon Tube Pressure Gauge Using Dead Weight
Pressure Gauge Calibrator.

Apparatus Description
1. HYDRAULIC BENCH
The Hydraulic Bench Apparatus comprises of a self-contained,
water re-circulating unit provided with a top tray and a sump tank
and is mounted on wheels. Various Hydraulic experiments can be
conducted on this setup. A Centrifugal Pump is fitted for water
circulation. Flow control valve and by-pass valve are fitted in water
line to conduct the experiment on different flow rates. Flow rate of
water is measured with the help of measuring tank and stop
watch. Water collected on the top tray from experimental setup,
drains and return to sump tank.
The Following Experiments Can Be Carried Out With Common

2. Dead Weight Pressure Gauge


The deadweight piston gauge (Bell and Howell) is used to measure
pressure in terms of fundamental units (force and area). A piston is
inserted into a close fitting cylinder. Weights are placed on one
end of the piston and are supported by fluid pressure applied to
the other end. For absolute pressure measurements the assembly
is placed inside an evacuated bell jar. Pressure measurements take
into account a number of parameters affecting the instrument and
its environment.
Procedure
1. First open the over flow valve.
2. Remove thee transport cap.
3. Insert the piston.
4. Now start checking for zero point by
5. Pressing the piston out of the cylinder.
6. Removing the piston and weight support.
7. Adjusting oil level in the open cylinder until the cylinder filled up
the edges.
8. The gauge pressure being tested should now indicate zero, as it is
only subjected to ambient pressure.
9. After the zero point, the piston is reinserted into the cylinder due
to which the piston moves slowly showing a reading of pressure
exertion through pressure gauge.
10. Repeat the experiment using different weights on the piston.
