A. Read the following texts carefully.

The Future of the Internet

Mark, 17
I think computers and especially the Internet will greatly change the future. The Internet
will become a much vaster source of information and media. This would make the sharing of
information much easier. One example is in the future: You might want a lot of information
about electricity, but you don't have time to go to the library, so you search an information
catalogue on a network. The search may have come up with text, pictures, videos, animation
and even a virtual reality example... remember it's the future! Libraries now can't even provide
you with this much information.
Claire, 16
The Internet will also serve as a place of commerce, where businesses will be able to sell
products, ideas, stock, and much more to people without having them go to a store or bank
to get something. If the product is a book, software, video, or something else yet to come, it
might be able to be downloaded and used right away.
Computers will also be more a part of entertainment. People might be able to interact with
each other in 3D environments. Many people may watch something like an interactive TV on
their computer where you can choose what you want to watch at any time, and be able to
access an archive of reruns to watch a show you might have missed.
Jane, 18
Well for one thing I feel that the Internet is going to grow tremendously. I also feel
that the Internet itself is going to allow us to surf the Net at higher speeds and that
sooner or later no one will be sitting around waiting for PCs to download - everyone
has a need for speed and the Internet is going to have to change in order to satisfy
this need. With more and more people using the Internet everyday, things like
Internet will become a necessity.
Peter, 15
I can see the web taking over the entire written medium and the media as we know
them today. In the future, people will be turning to the internet for news and for
entertainment as opposed to turning on their television or selecting the newspaper.
People are doing this already - why wait for CNN to cover a story on TV when you can
go to CNN.com and read about what you want to, when you want to? I really can't say
where the internet is going in the future, but I can't wait to find out!
