Introduction

A grading system is one of the most important procedures in a school

system. Manual grading system adds up workload to the teachers in order to
provide accurate and fair assessment on the performance of the students. It is
evident nowadays that the use of computer technology minimizes the
inconvenience entailed in every tasks. More schools are now using an online
grading system that can help save time on the tasks shouldered by the
teachers. An online grading system is a system that allows faculty and school
administrators to manage and distribute class grades online. Using this,
teachers or faculty can easily provide the needed assessment of their students.
This provides information about the performance of the students in every class
and their grades. Online grading system has a lot of advantage than the
normal manner of distributing grades. It provides more convenience to the
students, faculty, school administrator and also parents. Students can easily
see their grades and know the assessment of their performance in their class
just with the use of internet. This also helps the teachers to reduce potential
errors for compiling grades. Parents can easily have access to their child’s
performance grade and students can no longer hide their failing grades. It
enables the timely provision of final grades or academic report of the students
to the related stakeholders.

Saint Mary’s Angels College of Valenzuela is a private school located at

Parada, Valenzuela City. It offers program from preschool to secondary level
which now includes senior high school. They also provide computer class to
the students and conducts some learning programs with the use of computers,
such as mathscore. It was established 20 yrs ago and still using the manual
process of computing, encoding, updating, recording and distributing grades of
the students. The process requires more effort from the teachers and is more
prone to errors especially in computing and recording the grades of a lot of
students. A single mistake in computing and encoding data may require the
repetition of the process if necessary. As the number of students in a class
increases, the workload shouldered by the teachers also increases. It is also
difficult for the students and parents to monitor the performance of their child
since grades are only provided every end of the quarter.

Creating an online grading sytem for Saint Mary’s Angels College of

Valenzuela would make the process of computing and recording the grades of
the students more accurate and reliable. This will also make the academic
reports of the students more accessible by the students and their parents.

An online grading system will be very helpful to the school as a whole. It

will lessen the tasks of the registrar and faculty in encoding the grades of the
students. It also enables the teachers to easily change the grades of the
students in case of error in encoding it. It will also shorten the process of
inquiring grades by the students and parents.
