PIPE
Notes
1 Schedules 5S and 10S wall thicknesses do not permit threading in accordance with ANSI/ASME B1.20.1.
2 These dimensions and weights do not conform to ANSI/ASME B36.10M.
– The suffix ‘S’ after the schedule number indicates that the pipe dimensions and weight are in compliance with this stainless steel pipe
specification, ANSI/ASME B36.19M-1985, and not the more general ANSI/ASME B36.10M-1995 specification.
– Although this specification is applicable to stainless steel, quoted weights are for carbon steel pipe and should be multiplied by 1.014 for
austenitic and duplex steels, or by 0.985 for ferritic and martensitic steels.

FLANGES
FLANGES
Flange Types
Weld Neck
This flange is circumferentially welded into the system at its neck which means
that the integrity of the butt welded area can be easily examined by radiography.
The bores of both pipe and flange match, which reduces turbulence and erosion
inside the pipeline. The weld neck is therefore favoured in critical applications
Slip-on
This flange is slipped over the pipe and then fillet welded. Slip-on flanges are
easy to use in fabricated applications.
Blind
This flange is used to blank off pipelines, valves and pumps, it can also be used
as an inspection cover. It is sometimes referred to as a blanking flange.
Socket Weld
This flange is counter bored to accept the pipe before being fillet welded.
The bore of the pipe and flange are both the same therefore giving good flow
characteristics.
Threaded
This flange is referred to as either threaded or screwed. It is used to connect
other threaded components in low pressure, non-critical applications.
No welding is required.
Lap Joint
These flanges are always used with either a stub end or taft which is butt welded
to the pipe with the flange loose behind it. This means the stub end or taft
always makes the face. The lap joint is favoured in low pressure applications
because it is easily assembled and aligned. To reduce cost these flanges can be
supplied without a hub and/or in treated, coated carbon steel.
Ring Type Joint
This is a method of ensuring leak proof flange connection at high pressures.
A metal ring is compressed into a hexagonal groove on the face of the flange to
make the seal. This jointing method can be employed on Weld Neck, Slip-on and
Blind Flanges.

Standard Tolerances for welded and seamless cold finished tube (ASTM A 450/A 450M)
Notes
1 Includes ovality tolerance except for thin wall tube
2 tmin = minimum wall thickness
3 Ovality = Difference between maximum and minimum OD
Thin wall tube is defined as that with a wall thickness
t≤0.020 in (0.5 mm) for any OD,
or t≤2% of OD if OD ≤2 in (50.8 mm),
or t≤3% of OD if OD >2 in (50.8 mm)
4 Or 2.0% of OD, if this gives a larger tolerance value.

2R Cold rolled, bright annealed (BA) Highly reflective 'mirror' finish, very smooth. Often supplied with plastic

15-30 55-40 90-120 Commercially pure wrought nickel, good mechanical properties, excellent resistance
(100-210) to many corrosives. Nickel 201 has low carbon (0.02% max.) for applications over
600°F (315°C). • Food processing equipment, chemical shipping drums, caustic
handling equipment and piping, electronic parts, aerospace and missile components,
rocket motor cases, magnetostrictive devices.
25-50 60-35 110-149 High strength, good weldability, excellent corrosion resistance over wide range of
(170-340) temperatures and conditions. • Valves, pumps, shafts, marine fixtures, fasteners,
electrical and electronic components, processing equipment, petroleum refining
and production equipment, feedwater heaters and other heat exchangers.
110-150 30-20 265-346 Age-hardenable version of MONEL alloy 400 for increased strength and hardness.
(760-1030) • Pump shafts, doctor blades and scrapers, oil-well drill collars and instruments,
electronic components, springs, valve trims, fasteners.
30-50 55-35 120-170 High nickel, high chromium content for resistance to oxidizing and reducing
(210-340) environments; for severely corrosive environments at elevated temperatures.
• Furnace muffles, electronic components, chemical and food processing
equipment, heat treating equipment, nuclear steam generator tubing.
30-60 70-40 110-150 Excellent high-temperature properties, resistance to oxidizing, carburizing, and
(210-340) sulphur-containing atmospheres. • Heat exchangers, heat-treating baskets and
fixtures, radiant tubes, thermocouple tubes, furnace muffles and retorts,
combustion cans, aircraft engine parts.
51 58 173 Excellent cyclic oxidation and carburization resistance and good stress-rupture
(350) properties. • Aerospace and engine components, after-burners, flame holders,
spray bars, combustion can liners, turbine seals, heat-treating equipment, nitric acid
catalyst supports, reformer tubing.
75 45 180 High strength and toughness from cryogenic temperatures to 1800°F (980°C), good
