3. You are advised to spend about 45 minutes on Section A and 1 hour on Section B.

Section A: Directed Writing
[35 marks]

[Time suggested: 45 minutes]

You find that the generation gap between teenagers and their parents is widening. You are
very concerned and write an article to a local newspaper giving your suggestions about how
the problem can be reduced. Below are the suggested ideas that you would include in your
article.

 talk and listen to teenagers


 monitor teenagers’ activities
 lay down rules but flexible
 family outings
 know and meet their friends
 share and tell you love them

You should use all the points given. When writing the article, you should remember to:
 provide a title
 give your name as the writer
 elaborate on the points
 to provide an ending

Note:
For your article, you will receive up to 15 marks for the format and content points and up to 20
marks for the quality of your writing. Marks will be given for content when you elaborate on the
points given.
Section B: Continuous Writing
[50 marks]

[Time suggested: 60 minutes]

Write a composition of about 350 words on one of the following topics:

1. Describe an embarrassing experience in your life.

2. How to live a stress-free life.

3. If you were given a chance to be someone else, who would you want to be and why?

4. Write a story that starts with:

“The sound of the squeaking door gave me goosebumps.”

5. Mobile phones should be allowed in school. Discuss.
