I. CENTRAL PROBLEM

How can the Capital City Bank prevent the possibility of the repetition of the incident,
which happened with the Oriental account, in the future?

II. OBJECTIVES
1) To be able to monitor the transactions by each department
2) To improve information dissemination
3) To improve internal management
4) To avoid competition-related conflict between the departments

III. ALTERNATIVE COURSES OF ACTION

1) Capital City Bank should conduct meetings to improve communication between
departments.
2) They should not continue the deposit drive.
3) Each transaction by each department should have an authorization by the head of
the department.

IV. EVALUATION OF ALTERNATIVES

1. Conduct meetings to improve communication between departments.

Advantages:
 They will be able to discuss certain problems and concerns regarding each
department’s condition.
 Decisions can be made with the help of every department’s suggestions and
opinions.
 Since they will be conducting meetings, no department will be left uninformed of the
plans that another department might like to pursue.

Disadvantages:
 If the deposit drive is still ongoing, conducting meetings will not help that much due
to the fact that employees would still have the freedom to perform functions
unrelated to their departmental responsibilities.
2. They should not continue the deposit drive.

Advantages:
 There will be no competition between departments.
 Since the new management had created well-organized divisions, abolishing the
deposit drive would allow the bank to utilize the new plan to its full potential.
 Belonging to their specific departments, employees would be able to do the jobs that
they are supposed to do without interfering with the job of other departments.
 Employees would not be driven by greed anymore due to the competition brought
by the deposit drive.
 Employees would not be pressured as much as before because of the management’s
aggressiveness.

Disadvantages:
 Employees might lose the drive to work vigorously just to get attractive prizes and
bonuses.
 The bank may not have as many investors as during the deposit drive because the
employees would not exert the same amount of effort as before.

3. Each transaction by each department should have an authorization by the head of

the department.

Advantages:
 Before every plan is implemented, the head of each department would be informed
and would be able to decide if the plan can benefit the bank or not.

Disadvantages:
 There is a possibility that the plan may not be implemented by the head of the
department.
 Authorization from the head of the department would take time to process.
V. RECOMMENDATIONS

Our group has agreed that the best alternative to solve the problem is to discontinue
the deposit drive. By doing this, Capital City Bank can become more organized in their
transactions. The employees can do their jobs better if they focus on their specific
responsibilities. Also, they should not compete with each other because they belong to one
establishment. Instead, the departments should help each other to achieve the company’s
goal. Each department’s hard work would be an essential part of the whole company’s
success.

VI. CONCLUSION

If the deposit drive wasn’t implemented, the organization wouldn’t have any
difficulties with their transactions. Since Capital City Bank was already well-organized
before the deposit drive was implemented, the management should have just stopped
there. Their departmentalization was already very good and adding the deposit drive just
made things complicated. The deposit drive may have brought more investors but, just like
what Vicente Torres said, the bank would look foolish if there would be miscommunication
between departments.
