CONCLUSION

Based on the experiment we gathered, we found out that waveguides are the fundamental of
building blocks for creating any microwave circuit, like an antenna. They can act as the electrical
transmission lines for circuit operating at frequencies where the wavelength of the electromagnetic
waves is if the same order as the circuit itself. There are two kinds of wave guides, the rectangular
waveguides and micro strip waveguides, but in this experiment we are only using rectangular
waveguides. On my observation, rectangular waveguides the wave propagates in a metallic tube filled
with air resulting in low losses.

The components we used for this experiment are variable actuators for controlling the power
transfer inside the waveguides, cavity meter and probes are used for measuring the wavelength inside the
waveguides. This experiment is performed to understand how the microwave signal transport inside the
waveguides.

INTERPRETATION OF DATA
Based on the experiment, the waveguide is in the form of electromagnetic signal that is traveled
by bouncing signal along waveguide itself as transmission medium. The source and the load of attenuator
attenuate the signal at certain level and control the power transmission from input to output. The other
components of this experiment are to measure the microwave parameters, for example the cavity meter is
used for measuring the microwave frequency and diode detector detects the envelope of the incoming
signal. In the last part of the experiment, we used short circuit plate which is used to shorten the end of
the waveguide.

For the first part of the experiment, we used cavity wave is serve as the cavity resonator, it
measures the resonant frequency of the microwave signal. The resonator can be adjusted. Using the
cavity wave meter the frequency inside the waveguide is 10.55GHz.

For the second part of the experiment, the null means the guide wavelength in the particular
position on the wavelength transmissions medium is the cutoff wavelength where the frequency in
theoretically 0Hz. the data we got in electric field nulls is at 26 mm, 44 mm and 62 mm on scale. These
three parameters are used for wavelength computation. We obtained 36 mm apart from reach parameter
as guide wavelength.
