what they can do about it.

I will show the class blank concept maps on

Common Mental Disorders, Warning Signs of
Mental Disorders and its prevention and
treatment.

Let’s group the class into 3. Each group will have

a concept map to fill in. I will distribute strips of
paper containing the information needed in the
map. You will be given 3 minutes to finish the
activity. After that, a representative from each
group will present their output.

 Mood Disorders/Depression Depression is a condition in which a person feels
discouraged, sad, hopeless, unmotivated, or
disinterested in life in general. When these
feelings last for a short period of time, it may be a
case of "the blues."

But when such feelings last for more than two

weeks and when the feelings interfere with daily
activities such as taking care of family, spending
time with friends, or going to work or school, it's
likely a major depressive episode.

Major depression is a treatable illness that affects

the way a person thinks, feels, behaves, and
functions.

Have you ever been depressed? Yes, Ma’am.

How did you feel back then? I felt sad and lonely, hopeless.
Okay, tell us more about your experience. I was very disappointed with the result of my

I talked to my best friend and encouraged myself
to do better next time.

the worsening of such situation?

 Schizophrenic/Psychotic Disorders Schizophrenia is a serious brain disorder and is

characterized by a profound disruption in
cognition and emotion, affecting the most
fundamental human attributes such as:
language, thought, perception, affect and sense
of self. The array of symptoms include psychotic
manifestations, such as hearing internal voices or
hallucinations.

If you have a friend with this kind of illness, what I will show him/her proper love and care, and
should you do? support.

Yes, we must be there for them to let them know

and feel that they are loved.

 Bipolar Bipolar disorder is a lifelong illness. Episodes of

mania and depression eventually can occur again
if there’s no treatment. Many people sometimes
continue to have symptoms, even after getting
treatment for their disorder.

 Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

Children and adults with obsessive-compulsive Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder – People with this
disorder (OCD) suffer from unwanted and illness have anxious impulses to repeat words or
intrusive thoughts that they can't seem to get out phrases or engage in repetitive, ritualistic
of their heads (obsessions), often compelling behavior, such as constant hand washing.
them to repeatedly perform ritualistic behaviors
and routines (compulsions) to try and ease their
anxiety.
Most people who have OCD are aware that their
obsessions and compulsions are irrational, yet
they feel powerless to stop them.
Some spend hours at a time performing
complicated rituals involving hand-washing,
counting, or checking to ward off persistent,
unwelcome thoughts, feelings, or images.

These can interfere with a person's normal

routine, schoolwork, job, family, or social
activities. Several hours every day may be spent
focusing on obsessive thoughts and performing
seemingly senseless rituals. Trying to concentrate
on daily activities may be difficult.

 Obsessive–compulsive personality Obsessive–compulsive personality disorder

disorder (OCPD) (OCPD) is a personality disorder characterized by
a general pattern of concern with orderliness,
perfectionism, excessive attention to details,
mental and interpersonal control, and a need for
control over one's environment, at the expense
of flexibility, openness to experience, and
efficiency.

Persons affected with this disorder may find it

hard to relax, always feeling that time is running
out for their activities, and that more effort is
needed to achieve their goals.
Did you watched the “Ika-anim na Utos?”
The antagonist, who’s really obsessed with Gabby
Concepcion, made a perfect crime until
everything became chaotic.

 Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder People with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder have

persistent symptoms that occur after
experiencing a traumatic event such as war, rape,
child abuse, natural disasters, or being taken
hostage. Nightmares, flashbacks, numbing of

The Department of Health also has mental health Read

pursued through a mental health program
strategy prioritizing the promotion of mental
health, protection of the rights and freedom of
persons with mental diseases and the reduction
of the burden and consequences of mental ill-

Reflection
Show a Video Clip “On The Bright Side” Thank you, Ma’am! Good bye!

Remember that there will always be trials in our

lives. We will meet people who will let us down
and people who will always bring us up, therefore
we must accept who and what we are, when
feeling down and disturbed, remember to
recover and always look on the bright side.

That’s all for today, I hope to see you all again

next time. Good day and good bye!
