Architecture, Sculptures, and Functional Art


 Torogan – the ancestral house of the upper-
class Maranao

 Panolong – a wing-like ornament of a


torogan flaring out from the beams

 Rarub-A-Klong – a metallic armor made of


brass plates, carabao horn and interlocking
ringlets; a protective armor of Moro warriors

 Kampilan – a single-edged steel sword with

Individual Activity:

Design Your Own Panolong

Design a panolong using the materials listed


below.

Procedure:
1. Draw an outline of panolong on a 1/8
illustration board or cardboard. This will
be the base and support for your
artwork.
2. Put enough clay on the board. Tap and
spread the clay gently until you cover
the entire area inside the drawn outline.
3. Use a toilet paper core to roll on the clay
surface gently. It will flatten and even out
the clay.
4. Carve your okir design on the clay as
detailed as possible using a pencil, old
pen or pen cap’s tail. You can also use it
to remove excess clay and to add
defined curves and edges.
5. Smoothen the edges and surfaces when
you’re done carving out the details.
6. Finally, color your panolong with poster
or acrylic paint to bring out more detail.

Based on the artwork you made, the
