III. PROCEDURE:
A. Preparatory activities
1. Daily routine
- Opening prayer, checking of attendance.
2. Drill
Students will identify electrical symbols
3. Review
Students will cite samples of conductor and insulator
4. Motivation
- Teacher will perform a trick (3 rope knotted to become 1 rope)
- Teacher will tell about the importance of firmness of wire
connections.
5. Unlocking of difficulties
Definition of Terms
Conductors – materials through which electrons can move easily
from atom to atom. (e.g. silver, copper).
Insulators – materials with very high resistance, it cannot conduct
any current when voltage is applied ( e.g. rubber, plastic )
Splice- to join together, as two ropes.
Joint – place where two things come together and are united.
B. Presentation :
(Lecture and discussion using the illustration)
Common Wire Splices and Joints
1. Rat-tail Joint – used in wires which are seldom pulled.
2. T-joint or Tap splice – used for extending a branch circuit
from the main.
3. Western union Splice – used to protect service wires from
to much pulling or tension.
4. Under writer’s Knot – for wires in lamp receptacles and
male plug to prevent being pulled from screw terminals.
C. Application :
(Teacher will demonstrate and then the students will counter demonstrate)
Performing Wire Splices and Joints
Steps:
1. For Rat- tail Joint
a. Prepare 2 pcs.4 inches long wire conductor size #14.
b. Remove rubber insulation about 2 inches of each wire
c. Join the two wires across each other and twist together.
D. Generalization:
Students will summarize the subject matter. I learned that…
IV. EVALUATION:
Test I. Multiple choice
V. ASSIGNMENT:
A. Guide question:
1. What is a Magnet?
2. What are the classes of Magnet?
B. Word Study
1. polarity
2. repulsion
3. attraction
