Students must choose continual growth and keep going, as remnants of sharpening show sacrifices to achieve goals and become better people. Students should view failures and mistakes not as the end, but as opportunities to start again and learn without quitting. The purpose in life is to be useful, guided by others, as a pencil cannot guide itself or bring anything to life without help. Students should strive to leave good marks wherever possible

    The Pencil

    (DRAFT)

    (start of speech…….) INTRODUCTION….

    Let me describe us with a pencil, this will signify how the course of development that we are
    taking, let me use this simple instrument to discuss about life.

    This pencil in my hand represent us, our personality, attitude, our growth and purpose.

    Let me ask something.

    Do you think this new pencil is already useful? Or already capable to perform its distinct
    purpose?

    I rather say no…

    This is us. when we are still incapable, a novice that is just about to start with the path that he/she
    is about to take on, symbolizes that we are not ready yet to conquer the world and to accomplish
    his/her task.

    Like this pencil what is on the inside matters. A pencil without lead is useless. What is inside is
    all important, it allows you to make your mark on the world, the appearance matters less.

    The sharpening we get from living through tough times is often painful, we will experience
    sharpening time to time by going through various problems, but we know it can make us a better
    person.

    We will do better if we are sharpened once in a while.

    Life is a process of continual growth by which you must willfully choose to embrace and to keep
    going.

    A pencil is at its best when it is sharp and can do its finest work.

    This remnants after the course of sharpening symbolize our sacrifices to enable us to achieve our
    goals to become better people and this serves as the evidence that we keep on going even though
    in rough and painful process.

    All failures and mistakes, shouldn’t be seen as an end. Instead, we must learn to see them as
    opportunities to start again. We may not be able to erase them completely but this will teach you
    that your mistakes are not reason to quit.

    As students we are always enduring the heavy loads of information that we need to acquire,
    lessons we have to learn, exams we need to pass, and often we are struggling to manage our time
    with various tasks we have to finish on time, assignments and projects we need to submit before
    the deadline and different activities we have to perform that gives us sleepless nights to meet the
    academic demands and requirements to finish the course we are taking.

    It says that the purpose in this life can be summed in three words. “to be useful”

    What is most important is to remember that you will be able to do many great things in life if
    you’ll only allow yourself to be guided by another’s hand.

    After all, a pencil cannot guide itself. It cannot bring anything to life without the help of another.

    Therefore, we should leave our mark whenever possible a mark to leave something good.

    “BE THE BEST PENCIL YOU CAN BE”
