METHODOLOGY
This chapter presents the research design, respondents of the study, sample size,
sampling procedure and data collection methods to be used in investigating the study
problem. It also discusses the contents of the research instrument and the techniques that
will be used to analyze the data collected from the field.
RESEARCH DESIGN
This study aims to measure the level of appreciation in Filipino Pop Music of the 50
respondents of Santa Isabel College of Manila, and come up with data that may be used by
the students for the Appreciation of Filipino Pop music.
This study will use the descriptive research design and intends to use a questionnaire
to gather the needed data for the analysis of the level of appreciation in Filipino Pop music of
the respondents. It was a four-phased project where the first component focuses on the
definition of research problem, identifying the significance and scope and limitations of the
study and creating assumptions. This first phase also includes analysis of the current
situation of the subject of the study and the review of related literature. The second phase
will involve the preparation of the data gathering instruments to collect the socio-
demographic profile and to describe the knowledge of the respondents. The third phase will
entail the analysis of interview data, questionnaire responses, documentary evidences, and
observations, followed by the discussion and the interpretation of research results and
findings and the formulation of conclusions and recommendations. In the final phase, the
output will serve as a recommendation for the development of the appreciation in Filipino
Pop music.
PHASE 1: PREPARATORY PHASE
Review of related literature and Definition of research problem. Selection of population and
studies on Level of Identifying the significance and sampling procedure.

The study will use random sampling procedure where thirty (30) grade 11 students and
twenty (20) grade 12 students are the target respondents of the study. The data drawn from the
questionnaire will be used to gather their socio-demographic profile and their knowledge on
appreciating filipino pop music.
Santa Isabel College is a Roman Catholic school in Taft Avenue, Ermita, Manila. With a
total of 2000 students and 900 Senior High School students which are grade 11 and 12 that is
chosen for the research respondents.
RESEARCH INSTRUMENTS
Section one (1) will draw information about the socio-demographic profile of the
respondents, which include: name, age, gender, educational background, regional origins, and
civil status.
Section two (2) of the questionnaire will determine the Level of Appreciation in Filipino
Pop music. The knowledge questions were based on the respondents’ understanding about the
topic; what is filipino pop music, how they appreciate filipino pop music, how often they listen to
filipino pop music.
Section three (3) of the questionnaire will identify the level of appreciation in Filipino Pop
music. The information regarding Appreciation in Filipino Pop music. The questions were
answerable with “always”, “sometimes”, and “never”.
