4. PHYSICAL THERAPHY

i. Physical Therapist are health care professionals who diagnose and treat
individuals of all ages, from newborns to the very oldest, who have medical
problems or other health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move and
perform functional activities in their daily lives.
ii. PTs examine each individual and develop a plan using treatment techniques to
promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent
disability.
iii. The professional scope of practice of physical therapy is defined as practice that
is grounded in the profession’s unique body of knowledge, supported by
educational preparation, based on a body of evidence, and linked to existing or
emerging practice frameworks.
iv. Before they are allowed to practice, physical therapists must have earned a
graduate degree from accredited academic program in physical therapy. All PTs
must be licensed by their states. While each state has its own requirements,
most require that candidates have graduate degrees in physical therapy from an
accredited program and pass the National Physical Therapy Examination.

iii. A medtech is a regulated health professional who performs laboratory
investigations on the human body or on specimens taken from the human body
and evaluates the technical sufficiency of the investigations and their results
iv. A bachelor's degree is the minimum entry-level requirement for a medical
technologist. Advancement to laboratory director is a relatively common career
step for medical technologists, and this position usually requires a master's
degree.
6. DENTIST
i. Dentists diagnose, treat, and prevent problems in a patient’s mouth, focusing on
the teeth and gums.

study to earn a Doctor of Dental Surgery or Doctor of Dental Medicine. You must
obtain licensure from your state board of dentistry to practice in the profession.
7. CARDIOVASCULAR TECHNOLOGY
i. work in the cardiac (heart) department of hospitals, helping to operate
machines that monitor heart function.
ii. Cardiovascular technologists operate the imaging technology that assesses heart
and blood vessel conditions in patients.
iii. They cannot perform diagnoses, but they can work with machines that provide
helpful images to cardiologists. Cardiology technology involves the non-
invasive testing and monitoring of the functioning of the human heart
under various conditions, the provision of basic patient care during these
procedures, and the assessment and programming of implantable cardiac
devices.
iv. A one-year certificate program in cardiac technology provides a basic level of
preparation for a technician's job. Most cardiac technicians receive their training
in two-year associate degree programs at community colleges, although some
four-year colleges offer bachelor's degrees.
8. SURGEON
i. Surgeons are qualified doctors who specialise in operating on particular parts of
the body. These range from junior surgeons to highly qualified senior
consultants.
ii. Operate on patients to correct deformities, repair injuries, prevent and treat
diseases, or improve or restore patients' functions.
iii. A surgeon’s scope of practice is determined by the appropriate surgical specialty
by the ABMS or the RCPSC. Procedures performed are dictated by the guidelines
set by a specialty board. Performing procedures outside of the field defined by a
specialty board mandates additional education and experience, as well as
certification where appropriate.
iv. Before entering medical school, aspiring surgeons must complete
undergraduate school to earn a bachelor's degree. Courses in anatomy, biology,
chemistry, math and physiology may be beneficial. With bachelor's degrees,
students are prepared to attend medical school and pursue Medical Doctor
(M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degrees. M.D. degree program
curricula are generally divided into two years of foundational medical courses
followed by two years of clinical clerkships. During clerkships, students work
directly with patients, applying classroom instruction obtained in the first two
years to diagnose illnesses and provide healthcare. After medical school,
students typically continue their medical training in residency programs,
gaining practical experience in a chosen specialty under the supervision of
licensed physicians. Along with extensive, formal training from an accredited
medical school, all states require surgeons to obtain medical licensure

invasive assessment. Anaesthesia must be administered at just the right amount
or it may cause significant damage to a patient. They vary in levels of seniority.
Anaesthetists also monitor the condition of patients as they undergo
treatment such as surgery and sometimes run outpatient pain management
clinics.
iii. The anaesthesiologist is the perioperative physician (“peri-” meaning “all-
around”) who provides medical care to each patient throughout his or her
surgical experience. This includes medically evaluating the patient before
surgery (preoperative), consulting with the surgical team, providing pain
control and support of life functions during surgery (intraoperative),
supervising care after surgery (postoperative) and medically discharging the
patient from the recovery unit.
iv. After completing a four year bachelor's degree, students then take four years of
graduate education leading to a degree in medicine (M.D.) or osteopathy (D.O.).
After receiving a medical degree, students must complete four more years in an
anaesthesiology residency.
10.OPTOMETRIST
i. An optometrist is a doctor in charge of assessing a person’s vision and eye
health.
ii. Optometrists prescribe glasses and contacts for patients who need corrective
lenses, and they provide treatment options for patients with eye conditions.
Some optometrists will also perform surgery, with the most common one being
laser eye surgery.
iii. An optometrist registered in the optometrist scope of practice provides
evidence-based comprehensive eye health and vision care in a professional and
ethical manner, in accordance with the HPCA Act. The “practice of optometry”
includes: prescribing any ophthalmic appliance, optical appliance, or ophthalmic
medical device intended for remedial or cosmetic purposes or for the correction
of a defect of sight; assessing, diagnosing, treating and managing conditions
affecting the eye and its appendages.
iv. If you're interested in becoming an optometrist, you'll first need to complete a 4-
year bachelor's program, preferably in a relevant or related field like biology,
chemistry, or physiology. You'll need a bachelor's degree to apply for optometry
programs, which are rather competitive. Optometry programs typically take an
additional four years to complete; upon completion you must meet national and
your state's licensing requirements in order to become a practicing optometrist.

nature and extent of mental disorder. And prescribe, direct, and administer
psychotherapeutic treatments or medications to treat mental, emotional, or
behavioral disorders.
iii. Their scope can extend beyond their traditional roles in medical setting and is
well suited to be practiced in wide ranging collaborative, innovative, and
integrated models of care.
iv. First you need to earn a bachelor’s degree, then pursue a medical degree, and
complete a residency, and lastly become a board certified.

12.OBSTETRICIAN / GYNECOLOGIST
i. An obstetrician, gynecologist, or OB-GYN is a doctor who helps pregnant women
before and after the birth of their babies.
ii. Gynecologists monitor the progress of a pregnancy, identify the sex of a baby,
prescribe prenatal medications, and assist in the birthing process. They also
perform fertility treatments and help couples who are having trouble getting
pregnant.
iii. Obstetrics and gynecology is a discipline dedicated to the broad, integrated
medical and surgical care of women's health throughout their lifespan. The
combined discipline of obstetrics and gynecology requires extensive study and
understanding of reproductive physiology, including the physiologic, social,
cultural, environmental and genetic factors that influence disease in women.
iv. OB/GYN residency programs tend to adhere to a year-by-year schedule, through
which residents are given increasing responsibilities and hands-on experiences.
In the inaugural year, students receive an introduction to patient care, including
rotations in critical care, gynecologic surgery and outpatient treatments. For
year two, there's an increased exposure to obstetrics along with a continuity
clinic, which is a resident-run, faculty-administered facility. In year three,
residents spend more time in surgery and are given increased patient care
responsibilities. The last year, residents are given titles such as chief resident
associate, and typically work for six months in gynecologic surgery and six
months in obstetrics, providing independent patient care as well as supervising
junior residents.
