VRV Technical Specification
Bidder has to make an arrangement to take electrical supply for outdoor units from provision given by Electrical
department, IRS, ONGC in existing electrical panel. Installation of water proof, tested as per IP 55 test & followed by IS
2147 of 1962 type feeder pillar near the outdoor units, of suitable size with required type of MCCBs and suitable
arrangement to mount the MCCBs is in the scope of bidder. The feeder pillar shall be suitable for taking outgoing supply
for the outdoor units. Cabling work with suitable size XLPE armored copper cable to feed 3 phases, 415 V, 50 Hz supply
to the feeder pillar near the outdoor panel is in the scope of bidder.
Single phase power near each of the indoor units shall be provided by the Electrical department, IRS, ONGC. Extension,
connection & termination of single phase supply to the indoor units with suitable MCBs is in the scope of bidder. All
control wiring will be in the scope of A.C. Contractor.
Providing earthing system to the outdoor units / equipments is in the scope of bidder. 2 point earthing shall be provided to
all outdoor units / equipments as per Indian & international standards. Earthing shall be connected with outdoor units /
equipments using minimum 25X3 mm GI strips. Earthpits shall be connected with existing earthing grid.
The bidder shall undertake to enter into Annual Maintenance contract for “life time” i.e. 10 years, for the complete VRV /
VRF air-conditioning system to be supplied, if the contract is awarded to him by ONGC.
a) General
a. All components, equipments and accessories shall be new and comply with relevant Indian standard
specifications as applicable. The installation shall comply with the applicable codes of practice (wherever
such codes of practice issued by the competent authority) regulations and Indian electricity rules and safety
regulations.
b. The entire A.C. installation work shall be in a workman like manner and in Accordance with the modern
engineering practice adopted for such work.
c. Special attention shall be paid to the finish and general appearance of the work. Painting of units and other
equipments shall be done to the entire satisfaction of the Engineer-in-charge.
a. The tenderer shall submit eight sets of drawings embodying complete constructional details and
dimensional schematic diagram for the complete installation within 15 days of acceptance of tender. These

detailed drawing shall be approved by the accepting officer before execution of work. The contractor shall
submit the following drawings for approval after acceptance:
1. Design & engineering reports, equipment & piping layout drawings, general arrangement drawings,
electrical single line diagrams, wiring drawings, equipment & material list with quantity, data sheet &
specification of each equipment & material, etc.
2. Refrigerant supply and return pipelines showing sizes of pipes used, insulation etc from Outdoor units
to all the Indoor Units.
3. Electrical wiring diagrams for all electrical equipment including controls showing cable size and
equipment capacities.
Technical specification
a) VRV / VRF Units : Supply, Erection, Testing and Commissioning VRV/VRF Air Conditioning system including all
Equipment, Components and Accessories in 100% inverter based compressor shall be in the scope of
contractor.
b) VRV/VRF SYSTEM:
All VRV air Conditioners shall be fully factory assembled, wired, piped and tested.
The System shall comprise of Air Cooled Outdoor Units with multiple 100% inverter based scroll compressor,
connected to indoor units connected by common Refrigerant Piping, Power and Control Cabling.
The Indoor Units are detailed separately and the capacities of the units are listed in the BOQ.
c) General Requirements
The VRV System shall provide stable, trouble free and safe operations, and provide flexibility in operation of
Indoor Units with independent control of each Indoor Unit, including partial operation.
The System shall be capable of automatic operation even with varying Outdoor and Indoor requirements and
make use of low outdoor Temperatures to achieve lower Power Consumption, without any manual adjustments.
The outdoor units must be capable of delivering exact capacity proportional to the number of indoor units
switched on & the heat load in the air-conditioned area. The proportional operation shall be achieved by varying
speed of the compressor in the outdoor units.
Units shall have hermetically sealed Scroll Compressors, to ensure high EER. Each compressor shall have
protection / controller system against overloads, HP and LP and mounted on vibration isolators.
All Units shall be Air Cooled type.
All Systems shall be designed for proper oil return to Compressor System, along with the distribution of oil to
individual Compressors.
d) Power supply
All the outdoor units shall be suitable for operation with 415 V + 10 %, 50 Hz + 3 %, 3 phase, 4 wire A.C. supply
and indoor units shall be suitable for operation with 215 V + 10 %, 50 Hz + 3 %, 1 phase, 3 wire A.C.
e) Outdoor units
Outdoor units shall be able to operate at up to 500 C ambient temperature; however the units shall be able to
work over a range of outdoor ambient temperatures up to 430 C with 100 % efficiency.
COP (Coefficient of performance) of air-conditioning system shall be minimum: 4.
Outdoor Units shall have back-up Systems built into the Units, to prevent total shut down of System, in case of
individual Component failures, even when part of the Outdoor Units is out of Order.

Provisions in Piping, cabling and controls shall be provided for repair of a part of the System when the rest of the
System is operational.
All Outdoor Units shall be suitable for mounting, without any cover protection.
Air Cooled Condensers shall have axial flow, top/side discharge Fan, directly coupled to Fan Motors with
minimum IP 55 protection.
Outdoor Units shall be suitable for connection to multiple Indoor Units of different capacities.
All Equipment located outdoors shall withstand Rain, Wind, and Solar Radiation as prevailing in Tropical
Countries.
Units shall have standard Anti vibration connectors, mounts, etc.
Noise level of Outdoor Units shall not exceed 62 dbA at 1 Meter.
Air Cooled Condensers shall have copper tubes with bonded Aluminum Fins using proper contact and large
surface Areas. All condensers of outdoor units must be complete anticorrosion treated & coated.
Compressor shall be of the scroll type. The scrolls (100% inverter based) shall be of fine grain cast iron. The
shell, Suction & Discharge doom of the compressor shall be of Carbon Steel. The inverter compressor should
respond quickly and precisely to the changes in the room temperature using the electronic expansion valves
located near each of the indoor units. To ensure maintenance of temperature at the tolerance of +/- 0.5*C. All
compressors of the outdoor units shall have DC motor only.
The condensing unit should have multiple compressors. The compressor to get adjust the ratio of loading to
unloading and to control the refrigerant output of the compressors
The compressor should have advanced oil return to bring stability and safety with the help of the refrigerant
velocity during the full capacity period and oil should not be carry forwarded during the low capacity periods.
The system should not cause any kind of resonance / electromagnetic interference to the surroundings.
f) Indoor units
All Indoor Units shall be factory assembled, wired, piped and tested.
All Indoor Units shall have DX Coils with Copper Tubes and bonded Aluminum Fins with anti-corrosion treated &
coated for highly efficient Heat transfer.
All indoor units shall have brushless DC motor only.
Indoor Units shall have Inlet Filters, which are easily cleanable or replaceable.
All components of Indoor Units shall be easily accessible for connection, repairs and maintenance.
All Indoor Units shall have very low noise, not exceeding 40 dbA for maximum capacity and size.
All Units mounted inside the Ceiling shall have Fans capable of sustaining duct connections, and special filters if
necessary and adequate static.
All Units shall have adequate Insulation or Lining to avoid condensation.
All indoor units shall have separate expansion valve operating based on temperature controller to deliver cooling
as per the heat load of the room..
g) Controls
All Units shall have Microprocessor Controls.
Setting of addresses for each Unit should be automatic, and need not be programmed.
Microprocessor should have „Auto Check Function‟ to indicate errors to avoid malfunction.
Control Units shall be central, suitable for ON / OFF and Temperature control of zones, including scheduling.
Malfunction and status display shall be available.
Control Units shall be compatible with BMS of standard makes like MODBUS/ LONWORKS/ BACNET.
Individual Controllers with wired or wireless remote for operation, status, etc. shall be used.

Precision Temperature Control shall be mandatory with Electronic Expansion Valves adjusting to Load
fluctuation and operating load fluctuation to maintain + 0.50 C, of set point.
All Controllers shall have digital indication.
Power to the Control System shall be generated inside the Units from common Power source only.
Control / communication wiring shall run in PVC conduits with markers.
i) Mounting
All Indoor Units shall be mounted with Brackets, Hangers, etc. with proper size anchor Fasteners.
j) Performance Data
Indoor Unit shall be selected for the lowest operating noise level of the equipment. Fan performance rating and
power consumption data with operating points clearly indicated shall be submitted and verified at the time of testing
and commissioning of the installation.
k) Testing
Cooling / heating capacity of the various indoor unit models shall be computed from the measurements of air flow
and dry and wet bulb temperatures of air entering and leaving the coil. Flow measurements shall be by
Anemometer and temperature measurements by accurately calibrated mercury in glass thermometers. Computed
results shall conform to these specified capacities and quoted ratings. Power consumption shall be computed from
measurements of incoming voltage and input current.
l) PIPING
Scope of this section comprises the supply and laying of all pipes required for this Project. On the award of the
contract, the tender shall prepare his own detailed working drawings.
1) Codes & Standards: The design, manufacture, installation, testing and commissioning of piping and
accessories shall comply with all currently applicable statutes, regulation, and safety codes in the locality,
where the equipment is to be installed. The equipment shall also conform to the latest applicable Indian /
International Standard. Nothing in this specification shall be construed to relieve the Contractor of his
responsibility.
a. All piping shall be hard drawn 18G copper pipes otherwise stated. Pipes shall be new and from
standard manufacturers.
b. Fitting shall be new and form standard manufacturers.

4) Piping Installation
a. The drawing indicated schematically the location of pipes. Pipes runs and sizes may, however, be changed
to meet the site conditions. The contractor on the award of the work shall prepare detailed working drawings,
showing the cross section, longitudinal sections, details of fitting locations of isolating drain etc. They must
keep in view the specific opening in building and other structure through which the pipes are designed to
pass.
b. Piping shall be properly supported on or suspended from stands, clamps, hangers etc., as specified and as
required. The Tenderer shall adequately design all the brackets saddles clamps, hangers, etc. and be
responsible for their structural integrity.
c. Pipe supports shall be of steel, adjustable for height and prime-coated with rust preventive paint and finish
coated black. Where pipe and clamp are of dissimilar material a gasket shall be provided in between.
Spacing of pipe supports shall not exceed the 1.22 mtr.
d. Pipe hanger shall be parallel to walls and ceiling by means of approved shear fasteners. (Anchor fasteners)
In no case will contractor be permitted to chip walls / slabs for purpose of supports.
e. Vertical risers shall be parallel to walls and column lines and shall be straight and plumb. Risers passing
from floor to floor shall be supported at each floor by clamps or collars attached to pipe and with a 12 mm
thick rubber pad or any resilient material. Where pipes pass through the terrace floor suitable flashing shall
be provided to prevent water leakage. Risers shall also have a suitable elbow or concrete pipe anchor
support at the lowest point.
f. Pipe sleeve of 50 mm larger diameter shall be provided wherever pipes pass through walls and annular
space filled with insulation and finished with retaining rings.
g. Piping in refrigerant plant rooms shall be supported from floor and not ceiling. Contractor shall provide
necessary floor supported channel framework adequately braced at maximum 2400 mm intervals or as
required.

h. Insulated piping shall be supported in such a manner as not to put undue pressure on the insulation 1.80 mm
metal sheet shall be provided between insulation and the clamp, saddle or roller extending at least 150 mm
on both sides of the clamps saddle or roller.
i. Piping work shall be carried out with minimum disturbance to the other work on the site. A program of work
shall be chalked out in consultation with the Engineer-in-charge.
j. All pipes using screwed fitting shall be accurately cut to the required sizes and threaded in accordance with
IS 554 and burrs removed before laying. Open ends of the piping shall be blocked as the pipe is installed to
avoid entrance of foreign matter. Where reducers are to be made in horizontal runs eccentric reducers shall
be used if the piping is to drain freely; in other locations, concentric reducers may be used.
m) Insulation
a) Piping insulation
All refrigerant pipes shall be insulated with 19 mm thick nitrile rubber tube section insulation having a “K”
value of not more than 0.027 kcal / m / hr. / oC at 10o C mean temperature. Density of pipe section should be
minimum 20 Kg / m3.
All tests like pressure testing should be complete and all systems approved by the engineer before insulation
is applied to the equipment and piping. Insulation material shall be manufactured by approved manufacturers
and should be of approved type specifically intended for the services specified.
Pipe insulation application shall be as follows:
a. Pipes shall be thoroughly cleaned with wire brush and rendered free from all rust and grease.
b. Two coats of adhesive shall be applied on the clean pipe surface.
c. Pipe sections of insulation shall be fixed tightly to the surface taking care to seal all joints.
d. Exposed pipe should be covered with Aluminium foil / UV Paint.
e. Drain piping and refrigerant piping shall be insulated in the manner specified above.
n) Recommended adhesive
In all cases, the manufacturer‟s recommended Adhesive should be used for the specified purpose.

DX Coils:
DX coils shall have copper tubes minimum 24 G thick with aluminum fins firmly bonded to copper tubes assembled in zinc
coated steel frame. Face and surface areas shall be such as to ensure rated capacity from each unit & such that air
velocity across each coil shall not exceed 150 meters per minute. The coil shall be pitched in the unit casing for proper
drainage. Each unit shall be factory tested at 21 kg per sq.m. air pressure under water. Tube shall be
hydraulically/mechanically expanded for minimum thermal contact resistance with fins. Fin spacing shall be min. 5 fins per
cm.
